#trijam331 progress: Defend The Castle

We have been on and off all day for this project. It has been fun trying to get the system to work.

Is anyone able to guess the aim of the game?

Working on a boid system for crowd movement. We've optimised the algorithm (from On^2 to O(nlogn)) to allow for better frame rate, as seen in the video.

Progress is being made in the #trijam.
With 45 minutes left, can we finish this on time?

Although there are four areas the player can interact with, only two of them draw the eye. Due to time restrictions, we will add some colour to the other two areas and see if that helps.

OMTC Bug Fix!

After weeks of dealing with an animation stutter in the new AI system, we have finally identified the cause.

We're not entirely sure why this stutter was happening, but we think it's a combination of the AI's pathfinding and Godot's look-at function.

Returning to an older project to improve the assets made during the #trijam #308.

"Hey, Don't Touch That!" is a game where you play as a camp counsellor trying to keep little Timmy safe whilst you prepare lunch.

Featuring the campfire and little Timmy.

The Island Escape

The project is coming along nicely, despite a few hiccups implementing the rotating island mechanic.

There have been a lot of minor adjustments and improvements made to the old mechanics which we hope fix the issues we had previously.

"The Island Escape" was created for the Kenney Game Jam in 2021, under the theme: "Rotation".

With the help of a vaguely drawn map, the player must collect six items dotted around the Island and escape before the time runs out.

Re-working "The Island Escape", our very first project from 2021, into Godot. It's fun to see the difference that 4 years of experience makes.

Small update to the staff's animations using Godot's 4.4 LookAt Node. We also find it cool how the head turning blends well with the original animation. The next step will be to see how it performs within the game.

To conclude,

In order to fix this black pixelation bug, we will be adding a Bloom settings option to the rendering tab for players to enable/disable it as needed.

Thank you for reading, we hope this was insightful and helped someone identify this issue in their own work. ๐Ÿ™‡

we discovered that both scenes had VoxelGI enabled. ๐Ÿค”

In addition, we found that the supermarket had "Bloom" enabled, but the lobby did not.

This information, paired with this thread, led us to conclude that this is a Bloom setting issue.

๐Ÿ” Third, the player reported that this issue was only present in the supermarket scene and not the lobby.

๐Ÿ•ต๏ธWe were stumped.

However, with these three bits of information, we got to work.

Our first thought was that perhaps Godot's VoxelGI had broken. However...

๐Ÿ•ต๏ธAfter some investigating, we may have found the cause for this bug: Bloom.๐Ÿ•ต๏ธ

๐Ÿ” First, we can see that only the 3D environment is affected, the UI is untouched.

๐Ÿ” Second, the player reported that they were still able to move about, but that the squares blocked the view.

We're not entirely too sure what is going on here or why. If anyone has encountered a similar issue or has thoughts as to why this could be happening, we'd love to hear them!
