How patriotic are Republican Senators? How brave? How much do they really care about the health and the security of Americans? We will soon find out
Maybe the new Department of Government Efficiency can eliminate the head of HHS position? May not save money but it will definitely save lives.
Enjoy the parts of this job that you have control over 😊
life is all about how many times in a day you need to spend about ten bucks. i would argue this is the most valuable "about ten bucks" you will encounter
I’m seeing lots of job postings on here so now might be a good time to mention that we recently added a ‘Cell biology jobs’ board to our community site over at FocalPlane. It’s free to post (and obviously free to browse):

Thanks! In our case, we don't know whether the centriculum nucleates microtubules. Our data suggest that it blocks a fraction of centrosome-nucleated microtubules from extending further into the cytoplasm. It basically acts like a sieve.
Please share broadly! We (Molecular Genetics, University of Toronto) are looking for a new faculty member! Deadline Dec 19. Those working on model organisms and using genomics, computational and systems approaches are strongly encouraged to apply! Reach out w/ Qs!

Microtubule enthusiasts: we are finding that the centriculum (DOI: 10.1016/j.cub.2022.12.059), a membrane reticulum that surrounds centrosome in C. elegans embryos, serves as a microtubule filter. Does anyone know of other examples where a membranous structure affects microtubule properties?
Ok, I made a starter pack for membrane trafficking and organelles (broadly defined). Feel free to self-nominate! go.bsky.app/RbtJjt7
We seek volunteers for the TAGC24 Variety Show! If you would like to help please check out this link for more info: forms.gle/RuXBkfM7PVKB...
TAGC24 attendees! Hope to see you at the "Cry Until You Laugh" TAGC Variety Show on March 9th 😁
The Dpt of Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of Geneva is recruiting an SNSF assistant professor. Come join us! It's a great environment and we offer generous support!
Apply by Oct 31st and/or spread the word! mocel.unige.ch/education-an...
You gotta add C. elegans or you'll miss highly relevant posts.
So true. Chances are that by now you've come to terms with who you are. Very liberating.
Apply to as many places as you want. If you want to be kind to your letter writers and you’re not using interfolio, set up a shared Google doc so they can see where you applied and can track which letters they’ve sent. Not every place requires letters initially, but it’s still helpful.
Please share! Two exciting faculty positions are available to join us in Biological Sciences at UNC Charlotte: a Belk-endowed Associate Professor (tenured) position (jobs.charlotte.edu/postings/52628)
and an Assistant Professor (Physiology) (jobs.charlotte.edu/postings/52630)

I'm excited to share this add for a Teaching Assistant Professor at UNC Biology! It is one of three faculty hires in the works this year, after five hires last year! 1/2

This is worth all the time I've been spending on Bluesky when I really should be doing something else
There should be a "Bluesky" button as well
True for lectures as well.
Thanks! I'll attribute it to the review 😁. It's a very nice illustration.
Do women in academia suffer from Imposter Syndrome more than men, or are women just more willing to admit that they feel this way?
This is a terrific chart, but it's not in the linked review... Do you happen to have the source? I'd love to use it in lectures, if that's OK.
After spending all of Friday preparing for a possible shutdown: this was just a drill. See you again in November.
Infrared thermometer, but since it’s less than $100 let’s say two infrared thermometers. Great for media preparation and handy during a pandemic.
Abstract submission for #TAGC24 is open now through Nov 9! Topics include Neurogenetics, Genomes & Genomics, Ecological Genetics, plus model organism meetings, amazing keynotes, industry sessions, career/networking events & much more.
