“Some of the most important events in our lives occur in liminal spaces. In the gap between more significant, named spaces, we make discoveries and experience epiphanies.”

If you never have to think about whether you can afford to see the GP now or if you should wait til after next payday, then this story will be of no interest to you whatsoever.

David Shoebridge is right when he says that the impact of war is always inflicted on ordinary people.
We have a choice to make.
I choose people.
I choose peace.

If you let first home owners access their super to buy a house, this will act like a super charged first home buyer grants. Pushing up house prices and stripping people’s super accounts.

Do you reckon it’s ok that classrooms are over 30°C in summer? Yeah, me neither.

Dr Lowitja O’Donoghue AC CBE DSG is a name that is inscribed in history, and we are all grateful for her work.
/ 🧵
In her speech, Governor-General Sam Mostyn referenced the ANU motto “first to know the nature of things”:
“It is the nature of universities to seek transformation through understanding.”
Also loved hearing the GG quote Mikaela Jade 🫶🏾
It was a wonderful moment to be part of the recognition of her life and her work. Her niece, Deb Andrews, spoke beautifully of the achievement her aunt was most proud of: becoming the first Aboriginal nurse in 1954.

Paul Girrawah House standing at the lectern to welcome everyone to country.
Genevieve Bell standing at the lectern. There are Australian, Aboriginal, and Torres Strat Islander flags behind her.
Governor General Sam Mostyn standing at the lectern, wearing a red suit. In the portrait of Lowitja O’Donoghue projected onto the wall behind her, Lowitja is wearing a red coat.
🧵
“If you want the world to be different, you have to actively make it different.”
This is what ANU Vice-Chancellor, Genevieve Bell, said today as the Lowitja O’Donoghue Cultural Centre was officially named.

On Tuesday 4 March at 3pm, Laura Nuttall MLA will call on parliament to get fossil fuel sponsorships out of our schools. Come to the ACT Legislative Assembly public gallery for this historic debate.
Isabel speaking into a microphone next to Sam and Christina. They are smiling.
Isabel speaking into a microphone. She is wearing a brightly coloured shirt. On the wall behind her are candidate posters for Isabel Mudford and Dani Hunterford.
Sam Carter (in wheelchair) smiling and looking at camera. Standing next to him are Dani, who is watching something out of frame to the left, and Isabel who is looking at her phone.
Had a great time at the @greens.org.au launch for ACT Federal candidates Isabel Mudford, Sam Carter, and Dani Hungerford for Reps, and Christina Hobbs and Jo Rocke for Senate.
The antidote to despair about the state of the world is action to make it better. #auspol

Chris Ryan leaning forward and speaking into a microphone. She’s wearing bright green pants and a dark blue top, and she’s standing with her feet a little bit apart like she’s a nice tall A shape. This probably gives her good stability to reduce the risk of falling over laughing, which some of us felt like doing while listening to her.
Had some very much needed belly laughs thanks to Christine Ryan tonight. Very relatable jokes about renting and gardening and stupid Facebook marketplace.
She’s playing a bajillion comedy festivals. Replace a night of doomscrolling with a night of joy.

Trans and gender diverse people are more likely than most to need mental health support at some time in their lives.
There are guidelines to help GPs in providing gender affirming mental health care.
Because we all want people to feel safe to be themselves.

This is your intermittent reminder that social media networks are not entitled to your attention. It’s ok to take a break for a snack and a nap, and to touch grass and see sky.

If it’s not acceptable to exclude winners based on gender, then it also is not acceptable to exclude based on #disability. Dylan’s achievements count equally.
I must take issue with this week’s Saturday Paper quiz.
There’s a couple of tennis questions about who won certain Grand Slams. In both cases, the answers omitted Dylan Alcott. He won all four Grand Slam singles plus a Paralympic gold medal in 2021, plus the doubles Grand Slam in 2019.

It’s not just tech bros who can so easily become authoritarians. I’ve also seen it in progressive movements.
The only way to inoculate against authoritarianism is a radical love approach: give it away. Distribute power, so no one person can bring the movement down.
