That is impressively quick! Do you have a lot of interaction in your classes?

For transparency, I think it takes me about eight hours altogether if I somewhat know the topic, and my speed hasn't changed in ten years.
This is assuming you do have an overall syllabus, but you need to read up on some aspects and (gasp) make slides.
Dear people who teach at university: If you're preparing a 90 minute lecture from scratch, how long does it take you?
Are you aged 60+ and regularly play games? We want to understand how older players experience competence in games, and whether/how this makes gaming worthwhile. Super excited that Friedrich is returning to where I left things when wrapping up my PhD - we'd love to hear from you.
CHI26 workshop “Crip HCI: Cyborg Perspectives on Disability Justice” invites self-identified fellow cyborgs to consider what the field of HCI might gain from a deeper engagement with cyborg perspectives on disability justice, “crip HCI”, and better AT. Submissions due Feb 12.

Welcome to the annual period of advisor anxiety when #chi2026 notifications are out, but first authors are rightly asleep. Congratulations to everyone who already knows their papers have been accepted! :)
First year we've managed to shake the tradition of Sint bringing presents after moving away from Belgium. Glad to share they're now supplied by the Mamakind, because apparently, we're now too old to believe the Christkind is real.

Happy Catmas, everyone! I wish all of us a few days of peace and quiet in a world that's way too loud.

It's advent tram season, and here's our favourite type.
We're excited to share that the PACM issue containing full papers that will be presented at CHI PLAY 2025 has just gone online 👉 dl.acm.org/toc/pacmhci/...

That sounds super interesting - we'll be running a Dagstuhl on HCI games research in the same week, so hopefully there'll be time to learn more about yours over breakfast. :)
Ha! I just read a paper on VR accessibility that uses AI for scene description, and kept wondering whether it wouldn't be easier to pull data from the engine and try to do something meaningful with that. So... thanks for showing that it works, even if in a slightly different setting.
Yes!

Picture of TU Graz campus, showing a walkway between buildings made of concrete and glass. Everything in the image is grey.
The advantage of being a light sleeper in unfamiliar environments: Waking early and having time to explore. This time it's TU Graz - looking forward to joining #fdg2025 today to talk about equitable access to games. #fdg
The image shows a drawing of a letter, next to writing in bold black and orange, stating “Notifications for the full papers track have gone out!”
📢We have shared the notifications for submitted Full Papers with the corresponding authors!

Photo of a pond at UTwente. Concrete surroundings, a few plants in the water, and trees in the background.
UTwente has such a beautiful campus. Also an odd trip down memory lane, the last time I was in the area must've been around 2003 for Drome 10.

tldr: Interactive seat maps have potential to convey venue accessibility, but are often designed for categories of people that do not reflect diversity of attendees. A better solution would be to think in seat categories. For more detail and nuance - read the full paper! 2/2
We may not be traveling to Japan for #chi2025, but our work certainly is: Here's a pre-print of @lukestrowalker.bsky.social 's autoethnography that explores whether digital ticket booking systems support accessibility of large public events. publikationen.bibliothek.kit.edu/1000179652 1/2
You can read our full paper via dl.acm.org/doi/10.1145/..., and we hope that it'll inspire future research on sports technology and the role of leisure and joy for all of us. 3/3
We show that sports technology for disabled people often prioritizes health over leisure (although this doesn't need to be a dichotomy, of course), and that value frameworks for the design of sports technology need to be expanded to reflect perspectives of disabled persons. 2/3
How does HCI accessibility research approach the design of sports technology for disabled users? @lukestrowalker.bsky.social explored this question in his literature review that has just been accepted to the ACM Transactions on Computer-Human Interaction (TOCHI). 1/3
And I struggle to understand why hate seems to have become the go-to response to everything. We only have this planet, we only have each other.
