60 years ago today, the Chicago Cubs traded veteran pitchers Bob Buhl and Larry Jackson to the Philadelphia Phillies for Adolfo Phillips, John Herrnstein and a promising young pitcher named Fergie Jenkins (Chatham, Ont.).

That worked out well for the Cubs.

Joe McCarthy was born #OTD in 1887. After playing baseball at Niagara University, he played second base for two seasons with the #Bisons, hitting .266. He won 2,125 games as a manager with the Cubs, Yankees, and Red Sox and 7 World Series with the Yankees. Made WNY his home.

Earl Harrist was born #OTD in 1919. He won 12 career games with the Herd, including 1953, when he went 9-5 with a 2.66 ERA. In 1946, Harrist, who pitched for Syracuse at the time, fired two no-hitters, including one against the #Bisons.
