I initially tried TeX Studio, which wasn't bad, but the lure of #Emacs is too strong with its shortcuts, auto-completion and #Magit to help keep track of my changes.

Control-h is your friend :-) Doom Emacs is a gentler introduction to Emacs, since it starts you off with a sane configuration (that's assuming you can already use vi to some degree...)

I've muddled around with #Emacs on and off for years, but I got into it more seriously when I recently went back to uni and used it together with #JabRef and #LaTeX to write papers with proper citations. Now I use #LaTeX for some of the lesson notes I make for my maths students...
