MBE | Transgenerational effects of heat shock on gene regulation and fitness-related traits in natural Drosophila populations

@ewanharney.bsky.social & @gonzalezlabbcn.bsky.social show evidence of transgenerational developmental plasticity as a result of heat shock in fruit flies, documenting gene expression and phenotype changes 3+ generations following heat shock.

Great to see this paper by @borreroja.bsky.social on sexual dimorphism in Heliconius behaviour and related traits out. A lot of work! And he's right Vilcabamba and Ecuador in general is awesome.

Can you believe that until now there were more genomes sequenced for the woolly mammoth than for living African elephants?

Today, we bring you the first genomic, continent-scale analyses of 232 high-quality genomes of both species, the savanna and forest elephant.

Super proud of PhD student @marcushicks.bsky.social who went to Peru and discovered reproductive diapause in tropical butterflies - see preprint below. He developed a new model system, assembled reference genomes and is now uncovering transcriptomic footprints of diapause. More to come!

Very excited to share that my first first-author pre-print is out today! Many thanks go out to all of our collaborators, especially those who helped with the fieldwork in Peru - it really wouldn't have been possible without you! 🦋
