But I do agree, Wandavision played with ratios in a creative way that spoke to what it was emulating in terms of different TV shows. But now, we just have bearded guys with fancy IMAX cameras. 🫠

—sometimes, these moments lack consistency, and instead of different scenes, sometimes the ratio jumps from shot to shot, if done improperly. And it can come off jarring. :( It’s becoming more of a thing now to have smoother expanding moments instead of just jump-cutting into it.

Basically, if you see the film in an imax screening, during specific sequences the framing expands to a fuller frame (mostly action scenes.) On Blu-Ray releases, they started including this starting notably with The Dark Knight (and most Nolan work post-TDK). It’s rapidly grown past Nolan, but—

I really hate being a party pooper. I really do! But… this whole expanded ratio switch was more novel back in 2010 than it is now. I get it, it’s IMAX, it’s cool. But… I dunno. Don’t you just wanna choose one ratio, for the whole film, and be consistent and have a good script? No…? Okay…

One thing that does shoot me in the foot as a longhand writer is that the transfer from my previous draft to FD means the page count isn’t quite the same (and sometimes longer…)
