That commentary really sums up the complete lack of ability intellect and public service in the present day National party. Equally shared by Simeon, Nicola, Reti and Luxon.

I can just imagine Stephen Joyce smugly sitting back in his rum-coloured leather arm chair - a single malt in one hand and a large Montecristo Cuban cigar wafting smoke gently above him. Thinking... "we've done ourselves proud".

Record treaty submissions could be result of nefarious activity - tech expert Experts say an unprecedented flood of feedback may have been caused by a cyber attack.

RNZ Headline: Was this CYBERCRIME!?
Clerk of the House: No, probably not.
Person very clearly trying to sell his services: BUT IT COULD HAVE BEEN
National Centre for Cybersecurity: No, probably not.
RNZ: WE JUST DON'T KNOW

This is such a useful comparison. It highlights what a monumentally stupid decision Nicola made.

I'm hoping Winston Peters pushes this line a bit more (I'm not a supporter of his though! ).

Appalling.

From down here in New Zealand, this has prompted me to cancel my digital subscription too.

Entirely understandable. I gave up on the Herald a few years ago. I'm not sure NZME realise that HDPA and Hoskings are fairly distasteful for a lot of people. I guess they'll just keep serving them up to their aging and "entitled" audience.

I was unfortunately listening to Newstalk ZB after the murder of the Nelson officer... predictably the ZB host amped up the discussion of arming police and got the expected response of a bunch incoherent callers arguing for guns. The Herald is just following through on their sponsors line.

Corporate "gang patches"... which predictably are not ever going to be candidates for being banned by NACT no matter how much evil is done in their name.

When Families Need Housing, Georgia Will Pay for Foster Care Rather Than Provide Assistance In more than 700 cases over five years, Georgia reported inadequate housing as the sole reason for taking a child into foster care, a WABE and ProPublica analysis found. Advocates say it would be chea...

In Georgia, a mom facing eviction reached out to DFCS for help. They offered her nothing. Soon the agency took her kids away because of "inadequate housing."

The state then paid *$6,200 a month* to house her kids in foster care.

One of the most important and infuriating stories I read this year:

Public sector IT is exactly this too. The big 4 consistently play the same games.

They switch out experienced consultants with grads after securing the contract, deliver mediocre solutions, fail to give unbiased advice and cost the earth to the taxpayer. But... are politically well connected!

2024 - 290 deaths on NZ roads (as of Dec 30th)

2023 - 341 deaths on NZ roads

2014 - 292 deaths on NZ roads

And yet, even in this article, Labour's 'unproductive' blanket speedlimits, Auckland Transport's 'wasteful' road safety infrastructure are never mentioned.

I sympathise with you. I get the shouty/whining Newstalk ZB radio full volume at my parents place too. I try to turn it down without anyone noticing.

I swear ZB is actually an instrument of torture.

I thought I was the only one in this situation too. The poor phone gathers dust most of the time.

Of course, not only my mother calls it but also the regular scammers from "Visa card services" and "Microsoft".

In the face of new potential pandemic threats overseas, New Zealanders can reassure themselves that the government will take all necessary measures to protect landlords and farmers. They'll be right, mate.
