TB is a matter of time as it’s spread reasonably rapidly, a Feline Moth is the stuff of dreams 🤩
Definitely was worth it, I’ve only ever had one Mullein and the Toadflax Brocade would be a lifer for me. Puss Moth is relatively common, but I’ve probably gone and jinxed that for this year 🫣
That is some set of moths for only 5 individuals
🫣
And that’s providing they haven’t been parasitised 🤞🏻
Or the inclination on my part 😆
Well that’s certainly going to be the case down here! The Psyche casta is a dead cert, the others very much less so
🙄
I’m beginning to get the hang of some of the plants. The non leaf miner jobs, nope! Though I do have the Ben Smart books 🤓
Golden cypress, presumed Celypha lacunana caterpillar has now spun a cocoon for itself
A folded cherry leaf with a caterpillar in place
Spirea, a few of the tips have been spun together on this plant. No obvious occupants
So what’s in these plants? #teammoth
I’m assuming the Celypha lacunana caterpillar has now spun a cocoon in the cypress? The cherry leaves are folded + spun together, no idea. The Spirea has a lot of its tips stuck together. I’ve not found anything in these yet. Any hints or tips to ID appreciated
Consistent though 😆
Nice work Tim, very clear dissection work 👍🏻
Gotta get in touch with your inner moth geek 🤓
I’ve not been keeping tabs on the year list, but as I was entering stuff on iRecord I thought I’d have a look. I’d have bet a pint on this year being down on last 🤷🏻♂️
Running some moth data today and found that by this time in April for the last 3 years, I have seen exactly 83 species (aggs excluded). Seems quite strange to be exactly the same, and there I was thinking this year was pants 🤷🏻♂️ #teammoth
Or quit. I’m tempted by this course of action 🤣
I’ve only a few years as well, but this seems very slow to get going
Very much so. And the suns out, so do I try again? 🤷🏻♂️
That is quite a stark contrast, but this has been a poor year to date for moths ☹️
20/12 in SE Hants. Bloody cold this morning and not much better last night. 1 NFY White Ermine. Unexpected trap invader, a single Cockchafer which means I need to dig out the hard hat again #teammoth
🤞🏻🙏🏻
No
I wouldn’t mind a Chocolate Tip….
I’ve never understood this negativity towards mothing. Think of all the other things that we could be doing that are much more annoying 😉
After seeing a few micro moths yesterday I thought I’d have a look round whilst gardening today and also hang up some lures. I had a grand total of zero. Zip. Zilch. Nada. Sweet Fanny Adams. Not even a fecking fly through. I hate moths #teammoth
I haven’t really been keeping tabs on the year so far. I was definitely about 10 down when I last looked and suspect I’m still about the same. I hope you beat last years total 🤞🏻
Yep a few, always arrive when I’m doing something else and I’m without pot or net. Conversely if I have a pot or net I never see a day flying moth 🙄
I admire your dedication. I might trap tonight as it looks marginally warmer overnight than last, somewhere about 6°C 🥶
