I was waiting for the movie

Lists of numbers on a whiteboard representing the denominators of Egyptian ("unit") fractions that add up to 1.
Just did a deep dive into Egyptian #fractions with my #algebra 2 classes. At the end they had to come up with 5 Egyptian Fractions (1 is the numerator) that add up to 1. These lists are the denominators.
[2,5,6,9,45] means 1/2 + 1/5 + 1/6 + 1/9 + 1/45 = 1

I checked a logarithm problem I gave my students on #chatGPT and it did the #algebra right. But that expression does not equal 1.94. ๐ง
This is my Python program to find all the possible ways to make a rectangle out of a number, even using negative numbers. And the simplest example of factoring 104 into 8 x 13 or (10-2)*(10+3). In general, for any size square, x*x + x - 6 = (x-2)*(x+3)
Currently in mad scientist mode, adapting place value tiles as a puzzle where you make rectangles out of shapes. Unlike many #math games, when players figure out they're just factoring numbers they can get really good at it, and before they suspect anything, they're experts at factoring quadratics.
Happy Eid al-Fitr! I'm still working on the Islamic #Geometry sketches. This one came out all right. It's based on a design found in a mosque in Marrakech. I found it in Eric Broug's book. Lots of transformations: reflection, rotation, translation. #math
And by โtrial and errorโ I mean โanalysis.โ ๐
Generalized the pattern to draw any number of squares. It gets less interesting after 20 or so.
I've been a Processing guy and made the leap to py5 thanks to @gereleth.bsky.social's visualizations of her Advent of Code solutions. Was always inspired by the @beesandbombs.bsky.social types of generative art geniuses. It requires all the logic and trial-and-error of a great Geometry exploration.
More Islamic patterns with a #Python package based on @processing.org called py5. Also with a little too much trial and error from somebody who claims to be a math guy. ๐ฌ ๐
Writing about learning #geometry through coding up Islamic patterns. Today it's hexagonal fractals! #math #programming #python
What says Saturday fun more than multiplying and dividing 9th degree polynomials? You only need the coefficients. #math #python #programming
Volute #12
Don't know about nowadays, but way back in the 1900s my dad (a Bruins fan) used to joke "I went to a fight and a hockey game broke out." His philosophy was "If the puck ain't moving, it ain't hockey." ๐
They say Iโm not a romantic guy but I never forget February 14th, the day in 1970 that The Who played their legendary concert at Leeds University, immortalized in their classic Live At Leeds album. โค๏ธ๐๐ธ
Congrats on the promotion! The tiny screenshot of your profile had me mistaking you for an avid quitter. ๐
Looking good, you handsome devil!
All done with #AdventOfCode 2024. Fun ride as always!
Most memorable days for me:
- Day 14 (find the tree)
- Day 21 (robots inception)
- Day 24 (so that's how binary addition works!)
#py5 was very nice for making animations and I learned to use a statemachine to manage vis data
I just completed "Red-Nosed Reports" - Day 2 - Advent of Code 2024 #AdventOfCode adventofcode.com/2024/day/2
Happy Advent of Code! Are you coding along this year? #Python
It's not even a matter of being smart enough, it's just being old enough to remember 2018 when his tariffs and/or the retaliatory tariffs from other countries backfired so badly we had to bail out the farmers and the steel industry.
I love harmonographs or whatever this is called! ๐คฉ
