Why does England lose so many promising young mathematicians from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds? - FFT Education Datalab A look at the leaky pipeline for pupils who show potential in maths at age eleven but don't go on to pursue the subject.

A very interesting article from fft around disadvantaged pupils and their progress (or lack of it) in maths. Worth reading and pondering. How can we address this more effectively?

#mathstoday. Colleague taught powers (yr7) today. Ss had to identify base, index, power & write in expanded form. Moved from integer bases, to negatives, decimals, fractions & variables. Final question had variable raised to a variable. Ss didn’t know the expanded form but the ideas were beautiful!

Haha, it’s pretty easy once you know where the post it’s are. The canvas is essentially infinite though which is both brilliant and rubbish!

Have you seen the NCETM use Canva? Same layout(ish) but not quite as easy to use!
