thing about the Trump administration's24/7 stream of funds from the public exchequer into private hands is that you no longer have to explain colonial wealth extraction or tell people to read Dadabhai Naorojiwhen they are doing a live demo of how the British operated in Asia and Africa but at home
Illinois District 65–Evanston and Skokie–are "reassigning" middle school librarians. There will no longer be certified librarians in those schools. An absolutely unnecessary change that has an immediate impact on children's education: evanstonroundtable.com/2026/04/21/a...
Since @governor.ny.gov won't listen to working class New Yorkers, we found the only people she *does * listen to: The Rich.
So take it from @patrioticmillionaires.org: taxing the rich's second homes is just the start. It's time to Tax The Rich and stop Trump's cuts for good.

Libraries are a cornerstone of American democracy. Yet President Trump and his extremist allies want to defund our libraries, ban books, and jail librarians. Here’s how we’re fighting back. #NationalLibraryWeek
Trump is not the only politician who defunds public libraries... I think this is important for everyone to understand.

For @slate.com & @economichardship.bsky.social, I reported on how chaos and changes surrounding SNAP benefits are taking a toll.
People described endless fear and worry over feeding their kids, where their next meal will come from, and whether SNAP could become even more difficult to access.
Next time someone asks me what it's like to report on the far-right, I'll point them to @michaelehayden.bsky.social's new book. He captures the mental/emotional labor involved w/ reporting on people who want us dead, while providing riveting accounts about

Did you pay your taxes? Then you gave $4,049 to war and weapons.
According to the Institute for Policy Studies, taxpayers contributed more to Pentagon contractors ($1,870) than to troops' pay ($770), and more to militarism than programs like school lunches ($124) or the Postal Service ($19).

One of the things I love most about Zohran’s rise to power is that it shows so clearly how we could have a better democracy—one that actually serves us instead of just the rich—if the left decides collectively to take electoralism and government seriously. It’s ours for the taking if we want it.
Ran into one of these while canvassing for Mamdani and he got so angry when we tried to just walk away. Followed us down the block insisting that we needed to engage him. That he only mattered as part of our count was intolerable.
A news story noted that at a 2024 fundraiser, Zohran Mamdani discussed how he realized "it was more effective to organize people who already shared his worldview than to try to convince people who would never agree with him."

71 years ago today, Roberto Clemente made his MLB debut with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Batting third and playing right field, he went 1-for-4 in the Pirates' 10-3 loss to the Brooklyn Dodgers at Forbes Field.
He singled off Johnny Podres in his first at bat for his first MLB hit.
