Oh my gosh just got this one in the mail today!!
Ultra excited to a) reboot the Math Routine Collaborative, and b) partner with @cfless.bsky.social to create an accompanying podcast. Check it out! #ITeachMath
I got a call and had to hop off. Blog post linked. There would be things I’d change in the post now but its spirit is still accurate:) keepindianalearning.org/five-ideas-t...
I like to encourage teachers to use whatever worksheets that have found as a starting point. I write a whole blog post on this once. I should find it!
Hi! I always think about encouraging teachers to use the practice task to apply with a nudge. Like what can the task do to move them forward a little and *use* what they learned rather than practice what they learned?
Calling all educators! Speaking at #KINLCon is such a rewarding way to grow professionally and give back to the education community. I’d love to see your session on the schedule this year! 🌟 Propose now to speak: KeepIndianaLearing.org/KINLCon

Join us! These are topics ALL educators need to know more about! I can hardly wait!
This clip marks a turning point—recognizing that when students don’t understand something, the reflection starts with me 🪞.
What moment pushed your practice forward? 🚀

Asking kids what they think about math opened up a whole new world 🌍➗.
Their ideas guide our work more than any textbook can. What’s your favorite prompt to uncover student thinking? 💡

Courtney Flessner is an incredible podcaster (is that a word?)! Such great questions led to an amazing conversation. I learned so much throughout the conversation.
Highly recommend giving it a listen.
A great roundup by Edutopia on 10 best ed research pieces in the last year. Why helping can be counterproductive, another approach to math word problems, a study of practice-based pre-service education with implications for PD in mathematics, and MORE #MTBOS #LearningSciences4ever
Another AMAZING episode is out of Math and Other Things and I just really hope lots of educators get a chance to hear from the amazing @lieslmcconchie.bsky.social!

Love Journey! Not sure I’ll be in town but will know soon!
You will be missed! But Indy in February isn’t all that great…
A1: B and C both have dots. Although I suppose that me could argue so does D but not 4 of them… #elemmathchat
Me doing my favorite pose with no warmup. We can look ungraceful together. #elemmathchat
Courtney from Indianapolis, IN. You coming to NCTM here in February? Can’t wait to see you! #elemmathchat
A1: C! Triangle pose is my favorite pose. Feels so good every time. Hold on. I’m going to go do one now. #elemmathchat
Agreed!
I kind of want to look at the teachers and say, “I can’t fake this. I’m too tired to gather up that kind of energy!”
I even had kids over the years where I’d say, “Thursday! Thursday is going to be YOUR day!” I always giggled to myself but sure enough they were ready on Thursday!
It’s so true! And the key is genuine. I sometimes wonder if kids thinking I’m faking how excited I am to talk to them about their thinking. I actually never am. More! Tell me more!
For the particularly shy ones I warn them. I may say, “Today I’m going to make sure you have a chance to share your awesome math thinking with everyone.” It gives them a chance to pump themselves up because they know it’s coming. I’ll make eye contact in advance so they know it’s coming:)
When I’m talking to a student 1:1 I say, “Tell me about your mathematical thinking…” I use other prompts like, “Tell me more about…” Before asked questions to move forward learning I might say, “What I heard you say was…am I describing your thinking correctly?”
Or when they might even know it’s inaccurate because they struggled so much but you point out something they did well first, they believe they can do even more!
The Math and Other Things podcast is back! I’m a big fan of the episodes (and people in them) that have dropped. Special thanks to @ryanflessner.bsky.social, @rob-baier.bsky.social, @cluzniak.bsky.social, and @themathguru.bsky.social for amazing conversations!
