When students are thinking, everything feels possible. Flow & confidence grow when we release perfection & focus on reflection.

Every “imperfect sort” reveals how students are thinking.
Thin slicing isn’t about getting it perfect; it’s about curiosity, reflection, and adjusting in real time.

At #NCTMATL25 in Atlanta, we challenged teachers to consider the impacts of AI as they use it in ways that support them in the classroom.

💡 One big takeaway? Be thoughtful with your prompts—the quality of your questions shapes the quality of your results. 🤖✨#edusky #mtbos #pblchat

#NCTMATL25 reminded me that conferences are really about people. The sessions are great, but the best moments happen when you connect with fellow educators, share ideas, and leave inspired. Grateful for every conversation in Atlanta! #EdChat #MathEd #edusky

One of the most fun aspects of last week at #NCTMATL25 was everybody’s enthusiasm for our sneakers designed in Tile Farm Studio. For all of you who signed up for our newsletter, we will be selecting a lucky winner this week to get their own pair! Who knew math could be so fun!?!? #mathmadebeautiful

Fun surprise to start my day: @kimmontague.bsky.social mentioned my #NCTMATL25 session on the “Math is Figure•out•able” podcast! Can’t wait to work with @pwharris.bsky.social as we continue to convince Kim to join #teampen 😊

Just realized that #NCTMatl25 was the 10th anniversary of my first NCTM conference.

I had started teaching in 2006, mostly Astronomy and Physics, so it is not super weird that I didn't know about NCTM for so long, but it is too bad that more classroom teachers aren't involved (a common criticism).

Back home from #NCTMATL25! ✨

A number of sessions left me thinking about communication in math class. Blog posts are brewing…

Oh, and a number of curious things at my hotel had me thinking about communication, in general. Check out this R&B elevator. Is this effective?

NIM: 4 pile game
- Draw 4 piles of dots, one has 8, one has 4, one has 2, and the last has 1 dot.
- You can take as many as you want each turn, but only from 1 pile.
- The winner takes the last dot.

Do you see a winning strategy?

Two things from #NCTMatl25 that I'm going to be using *this* week:

Gail Burrill's algebra problem, and @gwaddell.bsky.social and Ed Keppelmann's 4 pile Nim.

Boarding my flight from ATL:
Gate agent: “What group are you?”
Me: “Pre-K” trying to say “1k” but combining it with “pre-tsa”

At least they gave them the best laugh of the day!

I may be tired! 😂
