I'm not just seeing an uptick in political calls and surveys but also scammers. Today's 907 number was a scammer trying to use a fake iPhone sales charge to extract banking info.
It was surprising to see it coming from a 907 area code because that was less common in the past.

Pretty sure it's optional to provide them your phone number. And they gave that data to the federal government, not a spam factory, right? I mean I don't have a ton of faith in our leaders on the national level but I don't think they collected all that data just to sell to spammers.

#akleg Anyone know what's with the uptick in spam risk calls coming from the 907 area code? New rules? New tech?
... Although, I suppose it could impact pickleball.

Juneau really shot itself in the foot with the property tax cap. We're looking at a pretty significant loss of serves.
Wednesday's finance committee meeting will largely revolve around a summary created by city staff that outlines more than 40 city services that could be on the chopping block.
A group of Ecuadorian fishermen survived a US drone strike, were detained at gunpoint, phones wiped, ship blown up, disappeared to El Salvador, then released without charge. “They knew we were fishermen. Even the Salvadorian authorities said things had been handled very badly.”
I would submit that a gerrymander by politicians saying fuck the voters and one by voters saying fuck the politicians are two wholly different animals

Yesterday I spoke at a high school in Calgary, giving the students a quick rundown of my creative career and things I wish I'd known when I was their age.
Here's a summary of key points I covered:
• My career is nothing like what I envisioned when I was young, but key parts of it shaped my future.
The Columbine massacre was on this date in 1999. Instead of energizing our country to get gun violence under control, it kicked off a new normal. One of the best explanations ever of journalism's destructive impact on mass shootings came from Roger Ebert in his review of Gus Van Sant’s “Elephant.”
This seems like a good way to leverage municipal resources and save people a bunch of time and money. www.adn.com/alaska-news/...
Ha. No.
Oh. Riiiiight.
It sounds more like a "spend more time with family" thing than a "oops, no more money" thing. At least in the note there.
Oh noooooooo. I loved that place!

Inspired, probably: It never happened and it was great for the economy.

I lost a lot of hours of sleep to Gmork.
Slopes of Mt. Juneau above the Gold Creek flume. Piles of snow from avalanches snake out from deep gullies between the trees out onto the brown pre-spring slopes above the river below.

Went for a walk up Basin Road above #Juneau #Alaska today to watch spring avalanches.
Also spotted some bears playing & relaxing on the snow, waiting for spring greens to start growing.
(Turns out my phone can take semi-decent photos through binoculars.)
Happy Right to Read Day to all those who celebrate (the freedom to read and against censorship)!
