A coloured pencil drawing of a wading bird. I made some of the colouring up and am now living in fear of wading bird experts.

This 1906 postcard provides a clever, minimalist representation of the Japanese postal service during the late Meiji era. The composition is dominated by a bold, red stylized "T" with a horizontal bar, the official symbol for Japan’s Ministry of Communications and its postal system. A postal worker, rendered in a simplified silhouette, is depicted mid-stride as if passing through the symbol itself, clutching a letter and emphasizing the speed and reliability of the mail. The card is further authenticated by a blue postage stamp and a celebratory purple commemorative cancel dated April 30, 1906, marking the "Military Review" of the previous year.

My photo shows a tall Roman drinking cup made of very pale green, slightly cloudy glass. The surface is decorated with thin, trailed-on threads of blue and white glass that wind around the cup, giving it a raised, textured, pattern. This type of glass decoration is known as ‘snake-thread’. The cup narrows slightly at the bottom and stands on a small, rounded foot, like a pedestal. It looks similar to an ice-cream sundae glass or ornamental vase. This cup and many other glass vessels made in the Roman provinces, have been found in ‘princely’ burials at the Himlingøje Necropolis, dated to Denmark’s Late Roman Iron Age. The site is known for its rich Roman imports, indicating close relations with the Roman empire.
This 1,800 year-old Roman glass cup is so well preserved that the railway construction worker who found it in the 1800s used it as a flower vase not realising its age!

I'm always a little torn about the beauty of the architecture in Perú, because much of it is from devastating colonisation. Yes, it's incredibly beautiful. And yes, it has an oppressive origin. #architecture #monochrome #photography #travelphotography #plazadearmas #Arequipa #Perú

Ein kleiner Schritt.
Besuche gern Kirchen.

Titolo: Sole autunnale👨🎨 Autore: Egon Schiele 🕰️ Anno: 1912

Schiele riduce, concentra, distilla.
