The only properly used words in this entire hed are “Pope” and “Leo”...
It's not a counterpunch, guys. The pope didn't throw a punch. www.nytimes.com/2026/04/12/u...
I am counting the days until I see this in May!

Well, it’s the last year we’ll be seeing this banner.
The American Crossword Puzzle Tournament moves to Philadelphia next year.

Lynyrd Skynyrd was all like “lord knows i can’t change” and then immediately changed tempos
It has always immensely bothered me that it's 1 of the first few bars of 1 of my favorite albums ever. I think it's one of the strangest song 1/side 1s on an all-timer tbh. Not BAD, just clunks SO hard & is immediate.
It's like "just get past it... let it go... the good stuff's coming..."
STUFF!
Big essence of Xanadu here...
Um OKAY. Breathtaking photos from the Artemis II crew's lunar flyby and eclipse viewing
Earth and Moon from DSCOVR NASA's Earth Polychromatic Imaging Camera (EPIC) aboard the Deep Space Climate Observatory (DSCOVR) satellite captured this unique view of the Moon as it moved in front of the sunlit side of Earth last month. This view shows the fully illuminated “dark side” of the moon that is never visible from Earth. Ian Regan processed this version of the image to account for the Moon's motion. NASA / NOAA / Ian Regan
I hadn't seen this before. This is pretty remarkable.

Ok but did you get the “fuckface” card?!
NASA just dropped this image of Artemis II astronaut Christina Koch looking back at us. The first woman to ever see our planet in its entirety. I’m not crying you’re crying 🥹🔭🧪 📸: NASA
I am hearing that all three are qualified, and that people who have worked with them report they are serious…
If you're under the age of 54, you've never seen a picture of the earth taken with you on it.
You develop an instant global consciousness, a people orientation, an intense dissatisfaction with the state of the world, and a compulsion to do something about it. From out there on the moon, international politics look so petty. You want to grab a politician by the scruff of the neck and drag him a quarter of a million miles out and say, ‘Look at that, you son of a bitch
This quote from Apollo 14 astronaut Edgar Mitchell has been in my head the last few days
Cover to the Better than Ezra single for “Good”
Thirty-one years ago today, the New Orleans-based alternative rock band Better than Ezra released its hit single “Good,” marking the first-ever Good Friday, which has now grown into a major holiday celebrated throughout the world.
A full disc image of Earth, as seen from the Orion Crew Module. The planet is a pale blue, swirling with white clouds and glowing slightly lighter blue in place from reflected light. At lower left, a large brown landmass is Africa, with Spain and Portugal with twinkling lights where the planet curves. At top right, auroras glow in a thin green glow, just barely separated from the planet's surface. Earth is set against the black of space (pic: NASA/R.Wiseman)
More context on this #Artemis II image:
* This is the night side, lit by moonlight. You can see city lights in Spain & Portugal, & a sliver of day at lower right
* The Sun is entirely behind Earth, which makes it a kind of solar eclipse, but w/ Earth doing the eclipsing instead of the Moon:

BIG BLUE MARVEL ATLAS Cover is yellow background, showing a picture of Earth, with cartoon chars showing people of various cultures around the top edge
When I was a kid I had this book.
It had that picture of Earth inside the book too. I WAS OBSESSED WITH IT.
OBSESSED.
TWC Extended Forecast in the classic 1990s vibe.
If you're like us, and you grew up with 1990s The Weather Channel, they've now got that available on their website.
Enjoy.
You're welcome.

"Netflix & Major League Baseball spent plenty on advertising to ensure that the general public knew the first game of the season could be found exclusively on the streaming service."
Me, a big baseball fan, last night after looking unsuccessfully on ESPN & Amazon for Yanks:
"Netflix has baseball?!"
