Aw I love this! Its interesting - when I was researching how to dress my enslaved characters in this scene, I came across a snippet from Seneca saying the senate decided there would be no enslaved uniform as it would show everyone how strong their numbers were and lead to revolt

Taking a break from comics today to start a small batch of these guys to sell.
I'll be setting up a Big Cartel shop called Cassowary Dad but in the meantime please DM me if you'd like first dibs on these 3 hand-painted air dry clay sculptures, approx. 12x10cm, £120 each (UK shipping incl). #sciart
Currently working on a ✨nighttime✨ version of this scene! Maybe not classroom appropriate

Yeah some “historians” have a proper meltdown when they learn Africa also borders the Mediterranean 🙄
Yeah it’s usually bot accounts making snide dog whistles and it’s just urgh. Block and delete go a long way tho

More details 🏺🌿
Art by flaroh illustration; on the left, a couple are walking past the thermopolium wearing their finery. On the right, two children play in the road with their dog while their nursemaid orders them onto the pavement. Behind them, a matrona enters the street from some steps, shielding her eyes from the sun while her attendant holds a parasol. Across the road from the two, a togate man and his two attendants walk towards the thermopolium and are acknowledged by one of the old-timers at the door. Moving further to the background, a donkey cart loaded with amphora approaches the stepping stones. To its left two people chat at the fountain, and a child plays with his doll next to the man. Above, people look out from windows and balconies, gossiping or doing household chores.

Art by flaroh illustration. The street scene next to the colour inspirations. In my Patreon write up I have created informative collages of all the visual sources used for graffiti, buildings, etc., (like this one)
This street is curved, which is unusual for a Roman street, but not impossible. The colours were inspired by the pinks, teals and yellows in Roman frescoes
I was also inspired by reconstructions of Pompeii by Jegou and Henniquiau who use a soft palette rather than blinding white and red.
