🚨 In sum, both groups share inaccurate beliefs about cues like gaze aversion and fidgeting. High confidence in their beliefs also led to more deception cues expectations. People judged strangers more harshly than themselves or close ones. This means training of law enforcement is essential.

We assessed 3 questions:
1. Do police officers have more accurate beliefs than laypeople? (Nope.)
2. Does confidence in your beliefs mean expecting more signs of lying? (Yep.)
3. Do we expect strangers to show more signs of lying than ourselves or close others? (Yep again—hello attribution bias!)

🔍 New research out!

Colleagues from @unil.bsky.social, @univ-paris8.fr , and myself (@tilburg-university.bsky.social) explored how police officers and laypeople think about deception cues—and whether those beliefs hold up. This paper is now out in the Journal of Police and Criminal Psychology!

Very proud to be part of this round table around the fighting of misinformation at ZPLS 7th edition with @lewan.bsky.social and @cbucken.bsky.social. Anyone interested in misinformation is of course welcome to join: the program is freaking interesting and it's completely free!

Hegseth’s Personal Phone Use Created Vulnerabilities The phone number used in the Signal chat could also be found in a variety of places, including on social media and a fantasy sports site.

Might be true considering the NYTimes report here, though I can't find the Der Spiegel paper.

Soyons vraiment attractifs : refinancons.

😰 Social anxiety moderates this—high anxiety lowers adoption, even if easy to use.
🚔 Trust in police & chatbot experience? No impact.

📢 Why it matters:
Psychological factors shape tech adoption in law enforcement. Understanding them can improve police efficiency and eyewitness reporting.

Encore une étude basée sur un échantillon représentatif de la population qui trouve la même chose que nous: les élèves surdoués réussissent mieux scolairement, ont moins de problèmes de comportement, et ne sont pas différents des autres en termes de fonctionnement social et émotionnel.
