Natural maternal immunity protects neonates from Escherichia coli sepsis - Nature Neonatal sepsis caused by Escherichia coli is associated with reduced transfer of pathogen-specific maternal antibodies and, in a mouse model, can be prevented by maternal preconceptual&nbsp...

Nearly every baby is colonized by various E. coli at birth, but luckily only 1 in 1000 develops a severe infection: A new paper in Nature shows how maternal IgG specific to mum`s gut E.coli protects neonates.

Most vaccines are designed to protect against a single pathogen - this new study proposes a different concept: mucosal vaccination providing broad protection against multiple respiratory pathogens.

For our #flowcytometry peeps, would you like to have a single fix/perm protocol that is optimised for everything? One that preserves fluorophores while allowing simultaneous TF and cytokine staining? How about 100-fold cheaper?

I have started my own group over a year ago and it has been an exciting journey. I am greatful to my mentor Mathias Hornef from whom I learned so much to prepare me for this. It was a pleasure to reconnect for the SMI oral history project and reflect on the science on neonatal mucosal immunity.

Congrats!
Does this imply we are not to ingest novel foods during infection?
