A new @uwnews.uw.edu study showed that as winters warm, snowpacks in the region may come to resemble those of maritime areas, with more rain-on-snow events, icy crusts, and complex avalanche forecasting.

Graphic of a letter from Alan Sealls, AMS 2026 President "We are all familiar with the names and faces of dedicated AMS staff who year after year keep the engine of the organization running smoothly. That’s a small number of people compared to the nearly 1,700 of us members who volunteer our time and talents to the boards, committees, commissions, cabinets, etc. We are the heartbeat of the AMS. From my eyes, I see passion, professionalism, dedication and enthusiasm to keep the AMS growing, healthy, productive and inclusive, while staying true to our mission. If you know someone who volunteers for AMS, give them a pat on the back. If you are that person, give yourself a pat on the back!
Thank you, thank you, thank you." with a headshot photo on the right.
