Lighting flashes that ignite wildfires are “larger and 3–4 times brighter” than average strikes, and tend to come from weaker, drier storms, according to a study of U.S. western wildfires.

Adjacent urban areas increase each other’s heat island effects, according to a modeling study by researchers from USU College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. Salt Lake City may raise the temperatures in Ogden and Provo by up to 1°C.

Children and pets are more exposed to urban heat stress due to heat radiating from paved surfaces, a new study finds.

The #JApplMeteorClimatol study found wet bulb globe temperature in urban SC was higher closer to the ground, especially during severe heat.

Energy demand decreased for winter heating + increased for summer cooling in Beijing + Shanghai in 1961-2020. Summer demand is likely to outpace the winter demand reductions as global warming continues, according to a study in #JApplMeteorClimatol.
