When Icheb was brutally killed for absolutely no reason in Picard it made me realise that Star Trek isn't coming back.

I’m getting old Andy 😂 I’m at the point where pain is parts of my body leaving me weaker!

I’m at the point where I think most sepsis (trial level) research is so fundamentally flawed that it is unlikely to show anything other that random noise. I don’t agree with everything Lawrence says, but he makes some extremely good points on this topic.

I feel like Shai running ultras is probably in a demographic that is reasonably safe from the daily dosing of analgesia observational cohort! 😉

Also…. So jealous of your runs. I’m back to 14 Km post injury and I’m fighting to add on every Km without repeat injury 😢

What a ludicrous comment.

Causal by Design – Statistical Thinking Well-controlled randomized experiments when analyzed in a randomization-respecting way are causal by design and need no causal calculus to infer causation. If an observational study has any hope of pr...

Prof Harrell really hits the nail on the head (again): "Target trial emulation runs the risk of serving as window dressing for inadequately designed observational studies". 100%; I'm seeing this everywhere now.

Which season? I didn’t watch the final one: just couldn’t watch anymore.

That’s a totally fair comment. I didn’t watch the final season of discovery: just completely gave up with it. I guess I feel a little obligated to watch because trek was such a major part of my childhood and I keep hoping that it’s going to be good.

Not at all. I don’t get why they used the IP to create a dark imperilled version of the future, which effectively says that nothing we saw previously matters anymore. Beyond the obvious brand recognition. Why not just make a new sci fi if that’s what they wanted to do.

Lower decks was fine. But basically just a nostalgia fest. Prodigy I tried to watch with my kids. But couldn’t really get into it: some of the characters were too irritating. Star Trek has always appealed to children without having to directly pitch to them.

Actually I was around for all three and watched them all. I've probably watched DS9 and VOY beginning to end 20+ times. Enterprise less so; Maybe 5 times.

Lower decks was fun, but only because it was endless in jokes and nostalgia. Which I enjoyed, but it gets old pretty quick. I struggled to get into SNW, probably because disco was so utterly terrible that it just didn’t resonate with me anymore. Orville is the best Star Trek now 😂

I really hope they don’t try and make more Star Trek for a decade or so. Current Star Trek is a weird blend of action and inter-personal conflict and just truly awful writing by people who don’t understand sci-fi or what made Star Trek special. Please let it rest 😢

Why must children today have water with them at all times and be given water breaks every 15 minutes? Seriously, is this some kind of conspiracy to maximally suppress ADH in all children? What could the possible benefit be to ensuring the maximum number of trips to the toilet??

Not once in the 80s, 90s or 00s do I recall a politician urging the public to embrace email, mobile phones, texting, two factor authentication, online banking, air fryers, or to replace all their cassette collection with a CD collection.

So forgive me if I smell a rat.

Just got around to watching the new scrubs. Wow. They nailed it. Totally on the nose.

In heterogeneous syndromes like ARDS and sepsis, I believe we generally are more likely to be able to find what causes iatrogenic harm than actual therapies. #emimcc #critcaresky

A WHOLE CIVILIZATION
WILL DIE TONIGHT
My son needs lunch, and I have to put his backpack together, but a whole civilization will die tonight, so I'm wondering if they've closed their schools.
Like, a snow day, maybe, except instead of snow it's
"keep your children home so if you die, you die together" — instead of "well open back up once the plows have cleared" it's
"we don't know if we'll be here tomorrow, hold your babies tight."
It's just "talk" I'm told, which I've been told before.
"It's how the president makes his deals." But I've never heard anyone talk about other human beings this way, and I'm not certain I can look my son in the eyes if we all agree to stomach it one more time.
A civilization will die tonight, but as I zip up his backpack and kiss him off to school I think: if this is what we call leadership then I'm not entirely sure ours isn't already dead.

Star Trek First Contact scene, and if you haven't watched this one you should cancel all plans and view immejietly. (Also has a Mark S from Severance cameo) Ok, it's nighttime and we're close in on 2 dudes, closest is Zefram Cochrane, and just behind him is William T. Riker, famous tromboner. Both are in civilian clothes, Riker a leather jacket, and Zefram in a bomber type coat with the white fluffy wooly stuffing around the collar. Zefram is also wearing a weird black hat that is sort of like a bandana in form and function, but instead of fabric it's bedazzled leather. He's speaking, and looks kind of dumbfounded or stumped. Closed caption reads, "You're all....astronauts .. on some kind of Star Trek"

Happy First Contact Day 🖖🏼

Star Trek The Search for Spock scene. Our Lord Spock is pictured in a white robe. He stands surrounded by his shipmates who are all older here than they were in the TV show. Sulu is smiling and touching Spock's chest for some reason. Uhura, Chekov, Scotty, and Bones stand close and all seem thrilled to see him, but are otherwise practicing self control and not feeling his chest.

Despite being surrounded by friends, Spock is staring only at Kirk, for obvious reasons.

A truth that is widely applicable.
Many of the people who think medical training can be shortened never take this into account.

A deadly bacterial disease is returning, doctors warn, as vaccination rates fall Hib once killed 1,000 children a year, permanently disabling many more. Doctors who've never seen the disease say the comeback is changing the way they practice medicine.

“The last night I was a pediatric resident, a child came in with Hib and promptly died by the next day. I didn’t work for 50 years to have everything destroyed by one man.”

This is what RFK Jr. and the anti-vaxxers have wrought.

We have different contracts. Even if we were both in dispute, I think a full strike simultaneously would be crossing a line for many (myself included). In practice, I think the most that would happen is withdrawal of all non-emergency work.
