Doing science the old fashioned way is starting to feel a whole lot like being in some kind of secret order of hedge wizards.

Piranha PM Emergent project management for teams that self-organize.

Piranha PM is live in alpha 🎣

Most PM tools assume management flows top-down. We think the best management emerges from the people doing the work. This tool is for them.

Daily logs, emergent tasks, co-created guardrails. No rigid workflows.

For context, we had about 2k cases in 2025 nationally. Now Spartanburg, SC has managed ~100 cases in 3 days with contact tracing becoming impracticable.

Hundreds more people likely exposed to measles as part of Upstate outbreak, DPH says South Carolina has reported nearly 100 new measles cases. Health officials said there are likely hundreds more people exposed who are not aware.

If someone with a better handle on measles spreading dynamics could chime in here, that would be cool. Seems pretty dire to me. Perhaps @yaneerbaryam.bsky.social?

Does anyone else feel like we’re constantly recognizing crises too late to do anything about them?

I feel like there’s an assembly theory component as well. If ideas are assemblages of analogies linking nouns, for example.

Social organization, classificatory analogies and institutional logics: Institutional theory revisits Mary Douglas - Danielle M Logue, Stewart Clegg, John Gray, 2016 As a social theory of organization, it is unsurprising that institutional theory draws upon the profound and ambitious work of the late anthropologist Mary Doug...

This might be a natural entry point to further exploration: doi.org/10.1177/0018.... The bit that made me think of your work was in How Institutions Think. It has a chapter titled "Institutions Are Founded on Analogy." I thought it might be a sort of parallel pursuit.

… and now I’m wondering if @melaniemitchell.bsky.social has seen Mary Douglas’ work on institutions and analogies.

I’m reading Mary Douglas’ How Institutions Think. Can anyone suggest follow up reading covering the next 40 years of science (bonus points for network science vibes)? #booksky

This was one of the best talks I've heard so far this year. Super interesting and relevant stuff from Mirta Galesic and @sfiscience.bsky.social. The applications of this work could be profound in the years to come as we try to understand increasing human mobility and interconnection. #NERCCS2025

AOC: Fox News and the right-wing would have you believe that these American values are something out of The Communist Manifesto. But let me tell you Fox News, I don’t believe in healthcare, labor, and human rights because I’m a Marxist.. I believe it because I was a waitress.

Of course we all live in our own constructed realities. They do not seem to realize this, however.

I just planned my schedule for #NERCCS2025! This is the 8th iteration of this conference. There are some truly awesome keynote speakers and contributed talks. There is a virtual option as well.

You can check out the conference here: nerccs2025.github.io

I continue to feel very fortunate with my choice of graduate schools. We recently were newly considered a “public ivy” and now we demonstrate resilience to uncertainty. Definitely one of my better investments. Especially seeing that other schools are withdrawing graduate acceptances.
