I cannot WAIT!!!!!
How long before they start pulling people aside for traveling while trans, or showing up on that secret database of unpatriotic persons? These are secret state police with a license to do whatever they want.
Christian Petzhold describing his love for movies “where people repair things”— Miroirs No. 3 is exactly about this, such a stunning film. #filmsky
Lucille Booth and Buster (Arrested Development) frozen in spotlight before a purple velvet stage curtain, looking uncannily like Weaver and Pascal at the 2026 Oscars.
From the 2018 NYC Municipal Archives exhibition “Unlikely Historians,” 60s & 70s NYPD “counter cultural” surveillance: A 1967 MLK Jr anti-war speech: “I agree with Dante, that ‘The hottest places in hell are reserved for those who, in a period of moral crisis, maintain their neutrality.’”
It’s snowing. Again. But I am excited about my tomatoes.
This is a truly brilliant idea. So want this to happen.
According to r/ApplyingtoCollege, Bari Weiss’s University of Austin is sending emails to students: “You didn’t apply. We’re admitting you anyway.”
I love everything about this story!!! “His great-grandfather, William Delisle Frisbee, had been a potato farmer and schoolteacher in western Pennsylvania by day, but by night he was a traveling showman. He drove his horse and buggy from town to town to dazzle the locals with a projector.”
This sounds similar to an old favorite:“Cookies in the Mouth” (potato chips and m&ms eaten simultaneously).
Catherine O'Hara playing Moira Rose in The Crows Have Eyes: The Crowening, arms raised in front of a green screen covered with feathers.
I just screamed and my partner ran upstairs in a panic. How can we without you, Catherine O'Hara?

It also covers parts of NE Queens, the same district that is proud to support Vickie Paladino, the Nazi-loving, white supremacist NYC City Council member. And yes, when Suozzi left his seat to run for governor (LOL) they were all in for George Santos. You can't get any less cosmopolitan than that.
Cover of Karen Russell’s book The Antidote (2025), with a sunset gradient over a dust-bowl era photo of a farmhouse and arid field.
“She scratched at the back of her head and suddenly her silver hair came floating down around her shoulders as if she’d pulled the pin from a hand grenade.” God damn, Karen Russell!

This is the actual problem and we need to demand more than cheaper eggs.
I’m so afraid she’s going to face custody issues, it’s cruelty beyond comprehension.
My guess is the next few years will be a series irreparable losses, and it will be hard to predict which losses will hit hard. Which will reveal exactly the degree to which the world we've been living in, the things that brought us stability and comfort, no longer exist. This one hit me.
I loved The Lowdown so much!!!! It was so unapologetically bookish!
Post a famous bathroom scene.
A woman across the aisle is loudly postulating that our train is late due to “a Mamdani thing.”
I’m so grateful to the friends that passed this tradition down. I love knowing no matter how rotten the world, we can count on this gathering. I highly recommend spending 1/1 cooking for folks you love, it’s an antidote to all the year-end angst.
I starting hosting New Year’s Day parties in 1996. I missed a few (break up, COVID), but most of those 30 years I spent New Year’s Eve finishing up my mac & cheese trays, stepping outside to listen to neighbors cheer in the distance, and looking forward to friends & food the whole next day.
Oh no!!! Such a huge loss.
