top surgery recovery has one pondering such questions as are button up shirts and trackies the new look, how many times can one be forced to sleep on their back before losing the will to live, and how the everloving fuck do you not automatically use your arms to push yourself up every time you stand

Absolutely insane. Uneblieveable. "Sex Matters", one of the hate groups responsible for removing trans people's rights via the Supreme Court are arguing that trans people shouldn't be allowed to transition because they don't have rights and not having rights is bad. Fucking hell

Woke historians now claim the British Empire was colonial. Where does the madness end?

Historians will shrug at this headline because it’s obviously true (one might argue ‘Imperial’ a slightly better label, I suppose?)

Presumably The Telegraph expects its readers to be outraged at this language? I’m not sure why

Bob Bartlett, photographed on the US Coast Guard ship Bear on its way to rescue the survivors of the Karluk. Bartlett and his Inuk friend Kataktovik travelled 700 miles across perilous terrain to raise the alarm and get help after the ship was crushed by ice.

A photo from p67 of William Laird McKinlay's 1976 memoir Karluk: The Great Untold Story of Arctic Exploration. The Karluk is mortally wounded, being crushed by ice, and the crew and stores have moved onto the ice flow.

Bartlett stays on board overnight, playing records. When he lifts each one from the Victrola, he frisbees it into the galley fire. And then the ship begins to die.

"Then, at 3:15 a shout, 'She's going!' brought everyone on to the ice. The Karluk was settling down at the bow. As the minutes went by, the deck sank almost entirely under water. Captain Bartlett put the Funeral March on the Victrola. With the water running along the starboard side and pouring down the hatches, he waited at the rail until it came down level with the ice. Then he stepped off."

I was joking yesterday about polaramory, but I do actually have a Famous Emotional Support Dead Guy and he has nothing to do with #FranklinExpedition.

He's Bob Bartlett. He was brave and principled. And no captain ever left his dying ship (the Karluk) as stylishly as he did in January 1914.

A fringe group of bigoted weirdos have dragged British media, government, and law into their hateful obsession with trans people. Grim, depressing, and dangerous. Everyone with power in the UK who's played along should be ashamed of themselves.

Back cover synopsis for Sick of This Horse Shit

Perhaps you wonder how it is possible that a horse wrote a whole book.
The answer is simple.
I am very angry.
This is my story:

A long time ago I was a baby and it was pretty funny. Then I became older & stronger and everyone wanted a ride. 'Take me over to that' they'd say. "Trot me over yonder,' they'd also say, but they wouldn't say it with their mouths they would say it by kicking me with boots.
Yes, it is messed up and I am sick of it.
This is the end of my horse shit so read it up.

There will be no more rides, no more funny horse sounds just for fun. I am going to hurt the old man who runs this piece of shit place.

This made me cheer. It gets directly at a problem I’ve often noticed: people don’t fundamentally understand what a historian *does*.

my research atm is reading and listening to lots of testimonies from gay men in the '80s and '90s. sometimes I google their names to see if they're still kicking, and it's always so funny to me when the person I'm writing about is on instagram or something
