#bikenyc: a Court has now ruled criminal summons given to cyclists (including those on legal e-bikes) for running a red light under VTL §1111(d)(1) are invalid. The Judge ruled that NYC's law directing cyclists to follow the pedestrian light (NYCAC §19-190(b))...

Thrilled to report that Queens CB6 voted unanimously to pass our resolution for a district-wide slow zone reducing the speed limit to 20mph - 15mph in school zones - on all qualifying streets under #SammysLaw.

This is an excellent explainer on why it is critical to defeat Gov. Hochul's auto insurance "reform" proposal. There is a better way to save money on claims - make our streets safer!

The safety improvements for West 72nd Street will convert four lanes of traffic into two, with a center turning bay, adding a two-way protected bike lane on the north side of the street. Bus riders will also get raised boarding islands and crosswalks. buff.ly/qzBQ211
That was a great ride and when I first met AOC. We did that ride because she'd weighed in on the Sunnyside protected lanes we were fighting for & her comments suggested she didn't quite get it. By the end of that ride, she did, and her open mindedness & analytical abilities were impressive.
Contact your state reps and ask them to vote "no" on @governor.ny.gov's terrible insurance proposal that will deny you rights to recovery without guaranteeing lower car insurance premiums. This is about maxing insurance industry profits, not helping you.

I am honored Sir.
Right, which in part explains the high rates. So fight the fraud - I totally support those measures - but don't restrict the valid claims of people who are injured. Instead, reduce the number of claims & security of injuries. Then everyone wins.
We know exactly what to do to reduce crashes, save lives and reduce claims, but the corporate money doesn't care about safe streets or addressing the real causes of our high insurance. It's unfortunate to see the Governor buy into that false narrative
Instead of making it harder to be compensated when you are hurt by a negligent driver we should be implementing Sammy's Law & Universal Daylighting. We should be redesigning streets and providing folks with safer alternatives to car use. And we should incentivize smaller cars.
"The focus should be on reducing crash frequency and injury severity," said Peter Beadle, a personal injury lawyer in Queens who believes street redesigns and lower speed limits would do more to reduce auto insurance costs. "This is about saving insurance companies money," he said.
The Governor is right to want to crack down on fraud & staged crashes, but the other proposals shift the cost of lowering premiums on to the backs of victims and that is fundamentally unfair. Instead we should be reducing crashes & injuries by making streets safer 🧵
Exactly right. Also there are multiple factors that go into premiums, including fraud (I support measures to fight that), theft and property claims. So this is a completely disingenuous argument being made with the map
This particular jab always makes me wonder if people think through their arguments. If we make streets safer and reduce the number of crashes and severity of injuries I, Adam and other attorneys will have *fewer* clients. And that's ok.

Today I filed an action to prevent NYC from fulfilling Eric Adam's last ditch attack on cycling in the city by using a law made to make our streets safer from motor vehicles against #bikenyc. Meanwhile the City does very little to implement the true intent of Sammy's Law, which must be corrected.
