Yes - from the lectures it looks like you may have used some of the online escape room or puzzle software platforms to allow students to interact with materials. But maybe it was just a slide show? I've been looking into the first but there are many options so just wondering if you had any tips :)
Oh this looks great - well done! I've been thinking of developing outreach activities like these for linguistics in general. Any particular software you used/would recommend?

Gretchen McCulloch @gretchenmcc.bsky.social Regrettably, the kid would still probably just end up having the accent of the local community, since that's already what happens with kids of immigrants Now, if a whole TOWN decided to talk like a pirate for 10-20 years, the kids could have some fabulous accents The Tweet she is responding to: Pookleblinky @pookleblinky.bsky.social A fun thing to do as a parent would be to only speak to your kid using a bad accent/impersonation, for like the first 5 years, just to see what happens. What does your kid sound like if you've only spoken to them via a Christopher Walken impersonation, etc
Can we just pause for a moment an appreciate what great LingComm Gretchen is showcasing here? Correcting a misconception elegantly, respectfully and with humour.

You maybe haven't thought about the similarities between Irish rap group Kneecap and Tibetan former political prisoner Tashi Wangchuk, so I wrote an article about that.

Nine Christmas-related words with interesting etymologies, one for each of the nine letters of 'Christmas'!

Bill Labov died this morning. I'm not coherent enough to talk about how important and influential and brilliant he was. I am very sad.
I was so lucky to know him, and I am grateful every day that he (and Gillian, and Walt, etc) built an academic field where kindness is expected.
