Finally out: We used CRISPRa/i to show that virtually ANY genomic site can become regulatory for cardiac genes—even without accessibility or active marks. TF recruitment remodeled chromatin & changed expression up to 70 kb away, crossing insulating loci.

Single molecule imaging reveals extracellular signal-regulated kinases dependent signal responsive spatial regulation of translation in cardiomyocytes Background Translational control of gene expression is crucial in cardiomyocytes, particularly in response to hypertrophic stimuli. The extracellular signal-regulated kinases (ERK) pathway plays a key...

Found in translation: Using single-molecule imaging, we show that ERK signaling controls where protein translation happens during hypertrophic stimulation in #cardiomyocytes —revealing a dynamic, localized response. #Biorxivpreprint #cardiosky

Imagine if we cited preprints by default, even after journal publication. Time to burst the impact factor bubble?

“I told her she could and would lead a continue to lead a full life” is simply not true for many patients with heart failure. Lying to your patients is unethical

In music, even famous artists cover songs, and some bands play almost exclusively covers. What if science had the same? “In this manuscript, we’re covering the classic paper from ‘04.”

Still waiting for a study that doesn’t end with “more research is needed.” Just one that says, “That’s it. We’ve figured it out.”

While assessing quality can be challenging, evaluating quantity is much simpler. As a result, authors, editors, and reviewers often focus on what can be measured

Many academics point to bioRxiv as “the one thing improving science publishing”.

If so, the one thing you all can do is persuade colleagues to submit and make this a norm. 1/2

Should we create an academic cryptocurrency? Mining would happen through peer reviews and committee meetings, eventually convertible to the ultimate hard currency: pizza

Some of the big news we report: "...suggesting that upon activation, [I-band] titin stiffness increased ~2.2 to 3.1 times compared to the passive state"

This is when editorial decisions are useful. An editor can reject a paper outright. Obviously not always a good thing, but sometimes it’s useful

Idea: develop a new method and use it to uncover lots of cool new biology
Reality: develop a new method and use it on one well known and well characterized piece of biology

Is the difference in the impact factors between journal statistically significant? Journal should specify the statistical test used, n, and exact p value when referring to their JIF

Like paring of food and wine, I am in favor of pairing music to lab experiments. In my experience Neil Young works great with RNA extraction.

I see remarks in grants review about applicants productivity. How is that measured? I suggest printing out and weighing the papers the applicant wrote, multiply be impact of journal and divide by time. Unit of 1 gr•impact/ year or 1 Clarivate

Like the game where we answer questions without using any of the four forbidden words: yes, no, black or white, can we review a paper without using: mechanism, in vivo , and rigor?

As a racist you condescend over the Palestinians. You do not thinks of them as man capable of action. Babies? Americans rebelled against tyranny, many other people did. Why can’t the Palestinians? Who promised easy? Life may easy for you, not so for most others

Ever heard of the Arab spring? People in Libya dethroned Gaddfi. There are many examples. People have power. They need the will to do exercise it. You either support Hamams or you fight against it.

Maybe this is something they should have considered before they launched thousands of missile into towns and butchered babies? Destroying Hamas is the best thing that can be done for the Palestinians
