One day, I'm going to write a thing connecting the use of "common sense" in politics to its use in philosophy.
It reveals a lack of imagination and curiosity. An abject inability to question what you happen to believe. It's the sign of a specific kind of reactionary: an especially stupid one.

On the merits the business case for tourism, arts, and culture is much stronger than the business case for resource extraction. It's a highly-skilled industry that provides a unique product with a much lower opportunity cost.

We give taxes to governments so they can do what businesses can’t. Provide vital services to everyone, not just those who can pay. Teach kids our history and traditions. Give dignity to seniors. Make this a safe and decent place to live.
My favorite part of Houston's announcement was when he said resource extraction companies are going to come here, set up shop & spend money (before they destroy our environment & hide in tax havens). While ignoring that people who already live, work & spend money here are losing their livelihood.

Fillmore is saying that due to delays the cost of the forum have increased by about 300% so the clear course now is more delays which this time, unlike all the other times, will allow us to save money. It's not kicking the can down the road, it's an attempt to kill the forum.
