We had a very engaging set of participants who shared our excitement and asked lots of thoughtful questions. We have tried to package it as a user friendly R library and more details about the package can be found here: coinslab.github.io/pgdcm/index....
I used to do this until I figured out the conference app! Easier to search people and talks based on keywords!!! Also I enjoy the feature to create the personalized itinerary based on the talks I add to the app calendar.
More details about the Bayesian Workflow book and case studies now available on the book web site avehtari.github.io/Bayesian-Wor... (but you still need to wait a bit for the book)
DAGs and potential outcomes are useful frameworks but they miss some things that are helpful to understand in practice. #CausalInference is Easy: nothing-so-practical.com/post/causal-...

I defended my PhD 10 years ago today. That was the least remarkable thing that happened that day. Sharing something I wrote about it last year. Since then "the horrors persist but so do we." And with dignity.
CodaNote: Collaborative Markdown/Quarto/Rmarkdown
People were looking for collaborating on MD family files with knit rendering...
I built this tool for CORE team, works like Google Docs.
Opened it to all from internal use so everyone can use it.
Feedback welcome!

Heading to #NCME this April? If you work with psychometric models and are looking for more flexible ways to build them, we'd love for you to join our workshop.

I wish people used #AI to trim their #writing rather than bulk their writing with meaningless paragraphs and sentences!
I made a map of 3.4 million Bluesky users - see if you can find yourself!

I've seen some similar projects, but IMO this seems to better capture some of the fine-grained detail

Have you ever quickly thrown a survey together and then ended up with data that was unusable?
It's because creating a quality instrument takes time. Taking your survey through these phases of pilot testing ahead of time, will result in better data.

if I see another academic describe LLMs - a tech owned by a small elite of white billionaires, built from extracting data from humans and minerals from the earth, and refined by the labor of underpaid workers in the global south - as an ‘important tool for decolonization’ I may simply just explode
course schedule as a table. Available at the link in the post.
I'm teaching Statistical Rethinking again starting Jan 2026. This time with live lectures, divided into Beginner and Experienced sections. Will be a lot more work for me, but I hope much better for students.
I will record lectures & all will be found at this link: github.com/rmcelreath/s...

The masses just want to automate everything that takes effort to master: law, medicine, research…(the list goes on). And do what?? (Doomscrolling & infinite shopping, I guess)
It was painful to see the news of Dept. Of Stats being shutdown at University of Nebraska.
I am going to avoid QTing as the intention is not to dunk. However complaints that stats is "too hard" and there should be tools to automate it miss the mark. Stats is a profession that requires hard work, like most others. They ARE hard. That's why you partner with experts.

Inspiring, though provoking, disagreeable 😉.
Great to have @lakens.bsky.social as a keynote at our third metascience for Machine Learning workshop

(2/2) Ppl with adversarial mindset are just waiting to ask questions and tear down ideas even without first trying to understand what the other person is saying or have the patience to listen to the response that’s addressing the question they raised.
(1/2) What I have noticed is Constructive vs Adversarial isn’t just with paper reviewing, it’s someone’s basic mindset. And it’s almost impossible to collaborate with a peer with adversarial mindset.
If experimenters regularly thought like modelers and actually did use synthetic data to vet their designs, they'd be running orders of magnitudes fewer experiments and the literature wouldn't be so saturated with empirical garbage.
Have you ever wondered what causality really is?

Saying “Oh, don’t learn to code because we have LLMs” is as absurd as telling someone “Don’t learn math because we have calculators”
Can I please have a normal day without seeing LLM/AI keywords on everything I see or listen? 😒
LLM is a tech/science epidemic! There is more to science and tech than these language models.
I keep coming across new lists of education research (and adjacent) job opportunities so if you are looking for work, check out these links. 👇
