Here's my shot of the tornado that developed to the south of Grinnell, KS yesterday! This is my first tornado! We got hit by the outer circulation and saw the ghost train ram into us with 50-60mph winds. You can see the left edge of the tornado on the left-center of the image, barely.

Midnight Update: Our storm is weakening and moving inland. Winds have gusted 50-70 mph along the coast, with gusts of 40-55 mph possible for the lowlands through 8-10 AM. Additionally, large waves of 25-30 feet will bring dangerous conditions to the coast. #wawx

Major mountain wave winds (offshore winds) will gust 60-80 mph for mtns/foothills (up to 100 mph possible), plus 50-75 mph gusts for most of the LA metro & Ventura County. EXTREME fire danger, power outages likely. Heed all warnings. Stay safe. #CAwx

EXTREMELY CRITICAL fire weather forecast in parts of Southern California on Wednesday, Jan. 8. Prior to this forecast the Storm Prediction Center had never issued a day 2 extremely critical fire weather forecast in California in the month of January (or any month prior to October). #CAwx

Reminder: strong Santa Ana wind event inbound Tuesday-Thursday, peaking Wednesday. Winds may extend unusually far into valleys due to mountain wave activity. Very high fire weather risk #CAwx

If there is any point during this winter that we get cold/snow it will be during this pattern change!

Also, these large pattern changes can take a while to establish themselves so don't be surprised if we have to wait until the last week of the month... 2/2

Long-range models continue to stay locked into the idea of a significant pattern change later this month and likely lasting into February. We won't have any idea how cold we may get or what precipitation we will get until about 1-2 weeks from now... 1/2

Last night's long-range GFS was one of the most beautiful model runs that I have ever seen. No point in going into detail about the specifics of the model run other than the potential for colder air at the end of the month is remaining and increasing still. This deserved to be put in the Louvre!
