Sincere thanks to @drmbothapsych.bsky.social, @draimeegrant.bsky.social, & @dramypearson.bsky.social for this reminder about listening with care and respect, when choosing which words to describe neurodivergent (not just autistic!) people.

I am so so excited to do a keynote and speak amongst so many people doing incredible affirmative work

Tonight I've read @drmbothapsych.bsky.social's piece, "Academic, Activist, or Advocate? Angry, Entangled, and Emerging: A Critical Reflection on Autism Knowledge Production," and I am on fire for this piece. 💥🎯🔥 #HigherEd please read it! #ActuallyAutistic www.frontiersin.org/journals/psy...
The image is a recruitment flyer for a research study - the wording states: Participants Needed. Are you a parent or caregiver of an autistic child aged 8-18? Do you have views about their screen use? Complete a short survey to help us understand more about the role of media in their lives. It will take less than 20 minutes and your answers will be anonymous. You can also provide your email address to be entered into a competition to win one of ten Amazon vouchers (closing date 30th April). There is a QR code to follow, and the researcher's email address is also given.
My friend is currently recruiting for her PhD - if you are a parent / guardian / caregiver of an autistic young person (aged 8-18) and have views on their screen use, please consider taking part in this short survey.

It was great to go talk about my Leverhulme fellowship work at University of Leeds! What a lovely and keen group of people 😄
Yellow and navy flyer titled “Participants Wanted.” It invites people to take part in an online survey about minority stress and neurodiversity, lasting approximately 20–40 minutes, with a chance to win a voucher. Eligibility criteria listed are: aged 18 or over, neurotypical or neurodivergent, and proficient in English. The flyer states there are no geographical restrictions and says “We’d love to hear from you.” Contact details are provided for Monique Botha at Durham University (monique.d.botha@durham.ac.uk ). A QR code links to the survey. A footnote explains that neurodiversity includes both developmental (e.g. autism, dyslexia, ADHD) and acquired neurodivergence (e.g. brain injury, PTSD). The Durham University Centre for Neurodiversity and Development logo appears at the bottom right.
Participants wanted! 👥

Oh thank you that's so kind! You can tag me!
It's not grounded in psychology, science, or robust therapeutic practice. I was raised in a house fearing a parent & even now at the grand old age of 33, the feelings of anger, fear, and sorrow are weaponised into narratives of alienation. Because of people like TBR we aren't allowed our own minds
Sometimes you learn about the people behind "parental alienation" or those who enact it's politics (of misogyny) and it's hard to feel anything other than disgust for them and the legacies they leave behind. Trish Barry Relph is one of those contemptuous figures

Yes, JD. Let’s ask them if they think a stay at home mom, avowed Christian, and widow of a veteran deserved to be shot in the face and left to bleed out in her own car after dropping her 6-year-old off at school, for the crime of looking out for her neighbors. Let’s ask everyone running for office.
Even by my low expectations for Kemi Badenoch ‘violence against women and girls is something done by immigrants and nobody else’ has shocked me.
Oh my god my heart actually just stopped! This is tomorrow at 1? As in Wednesday the 17th. I just went and double checked because I'm still tidying up my slides and almost died when I saw this 😂 thank you for posting about it though

Interesting, useful - and welcome confirmation that I'm not alone in hating misuse of 'neurodiverse' to describe an individual!
Absolutely insane.
Labour would have purged and smeared someone like Zohran Mamdani.
Wes Streeting's politics align far more closely with Andrew Cuomo.
The lessons from Mamdani are about how to defeat both the right - and the bankrupt "centre".
Just found out my 12yo is getting recruiting ads for ICE on his school computer. “Help your country. $50k signing bonus.” Depraved and predatory
Yet another inside-out autism research headline! This time it's
"Increased prevalence of autism in the children of fibromyalgia patients," when fibromyalgia is a common co-occurring condition for autistic people, so those autistic kids' parents are likely autistic too.
DO BETTER AUTISM RESEARCHERS!
Like, shout all you want about it, you'll be given a platform because our media & government like nothing more than shitting on neurodivergent people. They will guzzle your shit faster than you can peddle it, but anyone who is actually informed can't draw the same conclusions. Its easy to uninformed
I've seen once again, people who are largely uneducated, underinformed, and clearly not up to date on the science absolutely bitching about identify first language, disability pride, and community amongst autistic people and I find it more hilarious then terrifying because they are the equivalent of

Polanski is talking nonsense about wealth taxes.
The Spectator (owned by GBNews owner Paul Marshall - estimated wealth of £800 million) doesn’t like taxing wealth fairly.
I wonder how they got to this editorial decision?
Let’s tax wealth fairly, fund front line services & make hope normal again.

Every single day, labour float a new, shitty policy that primarily punishes poorer areas. That's fun 🫠 this is basically just a new and exciting way to defund universities, and slaughter ones already struggling after a decade of underfunding.
Two headlines in a row Tony Blair and Nick Clegg hosted dinner giving tech bosses access to UK minister Boris Johnson breached rules designed to stop abuse of contacts made in public office, watchdog finds
Why people don't trust mainstream politics is a mystery...
Absolutely incredible that Labour have been working to make Access to Work *even harder* to access, while pretending that the cuts they wanted to make to PIP were supposed to somehow help people access work.
Labour is trying to prove mental health is over-diagnosed so it can cut DWP benefits further www.thecanary.co/uk/analysis/...
Journalists should never have to fear government retaliation for reporting on government activity, and showing up to work shouldn't result in your family being torn apart.
Mario had the right to work and report in the U.S. at the time he was arrested for livestreaming a protest in June.
He was held for over 100 days in ICE detention, and he did not have the chance to say goodbye to his family in person before being deported.
