Who out there has written a memoir? I’m enjoying teaching a memoir workshop to a group of retirees. The goal of the workshop is creating a legacy book for their children and grandchildren.
Yes, it’s an amazing system, from shallow roots and soil to canopy ponds, complex interrelationships at every level. And it’s beautiful, bombarding the senses with colors and sounds. I loved being there.
Interviewing experts is the most interesting part of writing the kinds of nature/science books I write. I enjoy learning about their field work on a particular animal or plant. I like getting the science directly.

Alpha male primates often threaten subordinates with ferocious displays. These displays are usually enough for the animals to avoid killing each other. I thought the buildup of carriers and verbal threats would be enough to avoid war. But one alpha male preferred war.

Today, the Trump administration repealed the endangerment finding: the ruling that served as the basis for limits on tailpipe emissions and power plant rules. Without it, we’ll be less safe, less healthy and less able to fight climate change—all so the fossil fuel industry can make even more money.
Trump’s rollback of greenhouse gas regulations marks another of his backward, anti-science policies. Denying well established scientific
data does not erase the facts of rising seas and temperatures and melting in Antarctica and the Arctic.
