Every major news organization should be producing and promoting something along the lines of "Erratic and volatile president threatens to restart his war of aggression against Iran and order massive assault on civilian infrastructure, a possible war crime. Who will tell him no?"

Not that Tulsi Gabbard isn’t utterly incompetent and a huge national security risk, but she would be the 4th high-level woman in the administration to be thrown out while even more incompetent male appointees appear to be untouchable.

Also, this lede from @isaaccallan.bsky.social is a thing of beauty.

"There are currently six Ontario inmates on the run, according to Premier Doug Ford, who says his solicitor general is doing a “great job” despite the dozens of people being mistakenly released from jails."

Stiles is right. This undermines Doug 'Law And Order' Ford's brand. (Doug is the guy who wears his OPP hoodie to events.) This makes them look really foolish. Keystone Kops stuff.

Doug is not having a good week.

Hey there, from a family of bankers & worked at a bank so I know them well. I did corporate comms for bankers (including planning quarterly employee townhalls). Bankers actually use two-way forums, including townhalls A LOT. Don't know about Carney's central banks, but Canadian banks, all the time.

If some of the insiders building personal fortunes on illegal trades are also some of the same insiders who could remove the mentally unstable president, he's not going anywhere.

It's not just oil prices.

"Farmers on Prince Edward Island are bracing for fertilizer price hikes, as global supply pressure builds. For grain grower Alan Miller, that could make an already expensive season even harder to manage."

"The new OECD report is a rare attempt to quantify the impact of long COVID on both individuals and countries.

The researchers note that it’s no small feat because few countries actually track sufferers," writes @picardonhealth.bsky.social.

And just to add, I'm amazed at how many people think of economic growth as Canada's equivalent of the Iron Dome and don't question the strategy further. Increased GDP is not a shield or magical forcefield.

It's like we're all hotboxing capitalism and content with the buzz.

I was thinking that last night after posting this. People are so focused on the larger threat (& it's scary), they don't see the lesser threat for what it is. We're so focused on the sabretooth tiger that we're missing the man we know who is dismantling the structure that shelters us from the tiger.

Exactly this.

As I said last week - they think that LLMs etc are approaching consciousness because they know and care nothing about the depth and breadth of human consciousness

including their own.

".... he still seems unchastened. When he met the media on Monday, the premier prattled on earnestly and self-pityingly about how busy he is, how important he is, how valuable his time is."

👏 Canada 👏 Post 👏 is 👏 a 👏 public 👏 service 👏

Nothing proves how capitalism has brain rotted everyone than thinking the post office, hospitals, public transit, libraries, etc. need to turn a profit to be worthwhile.

His handlers were able to hide it more. There's something going on. (Could be he's just been premier too long.) He's becoming more emboldened.

"The decision to buy the jet during a cost-of-living crisis in which people are struggling to afford to gas up their vehicle or fill their grocery cart with staples was incomprehensible. I’d call it an own goal, but it was more akin to the team setting its stadium on fire."

To think of the almost certain death sentence HIV/AIDS was in the 80s and 90s and what it is now with treatment is quite something.

I'm finding it hard to be optimistic about humans in the last year but then I see studies like this, reflect on what we're capable of, and feel a little bit better.

I know there is a lot going on out there, but unfortunately pervasive concern over climate is all set up to make an absolutely roaring comeback

She blooms late
compared to her sisters,
to let them have their day.
No need for competition,
though obviously
She’s the queen.

I hear you about Ford lying, but if he was, Carney could correct the record. I haven't heard any attempt. And Carney's policy choices are conservative policy choices.
