I think that sometimes the language community gets really hung up on constantly studying or always doing something language-related, so this is actually a good reminder that it doesn't have to be that way!

My study times for the week! German and French are making a comeback! I donโ€™t even know why I include Korean on there since I use it every day but only track very specific thingsโ€ฆ But yeah, I put in some good work! ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿฝ ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿฝ #langsky

When I was learning L3 Korean, I don't remember my L2 French interfering a whole lot. However, when I was studying Spanish in university (don't remember which "number" it would have been; I haven't maintained it or used it at all), the L2 interference was REAL, Surely because of their proximity.

It's so easy to compare yourself with others' progress, but you should just live life in a manner and speed comfortable with you. I didn't have my first proper relationship until after I graduated university ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ Just how it worked out for me!

My main beef with Duolingo, aside from some of the wonkiness that was going on with some Asian language courses back when I tried them out, is how they fired real people just to replace them with AI. Language is at its core such a human thing...

I used to translate news articles and such for fun/practice, and sometimes my husband asks me to translate his essays. I've always thought that translation would be a fun path to take. What if I started practicing more and sharing my translations here...? Hmmm.

1 year ago 1 0 0 0

Do they? Most people I know have no idea. I know IPA because linguistics was one of my minors in uni. It was fun for sure, and IPA is helpful when I'm not sure what a sound in a new language is supposed to be :D

2. I guess it just sounds plain to me?
3. Arabic, but I'll get it eventually!
4. Uhh, which one?
5. Both
6. French
7. Not anymore
8. US

A seditious cry in the night,
The sound of martial law like a blade drawn.
In the land where falls the shadow of fear,
An unquenchable beaconโ€”freedom.

Just as the prison bars of oppression close
The peoplesโ€™ cry that shakes land and sea,
The rivers of history flowed true
And the winds extinguished not the flames of truth.

Those who gathered under the banner of democracy
While grasping the hands of solidarity and courage,
Brought tumbling the colossal tower of lies
And welcomed the victorious dawn in the land of verity.

The rights taught by our history,
Violence falters and justice remains.
The fervent desire of the citizens to protect freedom
Will not be broken by martial law

I jumped ship a while ago because of all the bots and the declining community over there. Some pretty insidious stuff was left to run rampant, and I'm just not about that.

I often sell mine to the used book store near my house! I write in the books with erasable pen while I'm using them, and then once it's time to destash, I blast it with a hair dryer to erase everything, and then it's off to the store!

Mostly Hilokal, Hellotalk, and Discord! The first two are language exchange apps, and Discord just has a lot of language communities on it.

I use the free version and it's more than enough. I think the paid features are more for people who actually use it for business tracking and all.

I use Clockify! I have each language as a project, and each different skill (speaking, reading, etc.) as a task. I can see at a glance how much time I spent on each language, and I can even break it down by skills if I want!

I do a lot of voice chatting on different apps, and over time, I can feel my progress, though I donโ€™t actually track that. Also, for a few months I was making little videos speaking different languages and posting them on Insta. I could look back at those and see the progress between then and now.

I use it when I do practice writing and need someone to check what I wrote. I know it isnโ€™t perfect, but itโ€™s better than I am, and itโ€™s better than just writing and having no feedback! I tell it to correct what I wrote and give explanations for every correction.
