Why indeed? The answer’s nothing good, I’m sure of that 😬

I’m from Nottingham and it’s absolutely 💯 mushy peas. They look awful, smell awful, taste awful.

I’m really really sorry to hear this. Mindless vandalism which harms so many people -you and your students and community- and does no good at all.

Americans also have no equivalent to the Irish political “heave”, poor creatures.

A couple of years ago when I had this issue I discovered that my bank of Ireland app was eating an astonishing amount of data despite the fact that (obvs!) I’m logged out of it 99% of the time. It’s ridiculous

Also came to say this - from now on those turning 60 are Gen X, not Boomers so they also inherited these housing and job markets, especially cos academics get permanent jobs /mortgages late. So retirement before 65 is going to be less likely for them.

I do wonder if Auto Traders Monthly or Concrete Construction News devotes column after column to why their subscribers and fellow professionals are feckless wasters lucky to have a job and responsible for most of what's wrong with the world? Or is that just Higher Ed publications??

The Morning Show was a great example of making good plot usage of C19, and so many other dramas could have done similar! But we know that 'brand safety' tools stripped digital ad buys from news stories about it even in its early months so my assumption has been that attitude has influenced drama too

yes it is there occasionally (interesting about The Pitt, I haven't watched it). But considering it was nearly 2 years of everyone's lives, it isn't even included in back-stories very often!

completely different area of study/life, but the same is true of film and tv - there are v few plots that engage with 2020-21, let alone directly with the illness. Nothing about lockdowns, masks etc despite the fact that period of time offers some v innovative plot-lines. It's like it never happened

Ha! Yes worse and worse, politically-speaking!

when I commuted Dublin-Dundalk c.2000 there were a LOT of delays to trains coming down from Belfast for the journey home, so they'd send us to the pub opposite Dundalk station and then ring them when the train was coming - the barman would yell and we'd all dash back just in time 😆

yes they will! Tho the more I think about it, the more I'm sure County Councils can't dictate what people wear, so this is just showboating for the car lobby.

you are aware that the speed limit is a maximum speed not the minimum or even a target? So it's your responsibility to drive at the speed you know to be safe for yourself and other road users.

Yes, I often end up doing two different routes there and back to Lincolnshire, to try and make better train/flight connections. But in general I’m a fan of Birmingham airport - manageable size, direct train connections and in the middle of the country. It’s often a good option. Good luck!

From the SipsTea community on Reddit: People in Poland dress up and LARP as Americans from Ohio in a popular annual 4th of July event Explore this post and more from the SipsTea community

“The 4th of July LARP is an annual roleplaying event in Poland where participants immerse themselves in the lives of contemporary Americans. Set in the fictional "Pristine Park, Ohio," players transform Polish holiday resorts into simulated trailer parks” Why doesn’t this have its own Netflix show??

I know this might seem like setting off in the wrong direction, but if the Cardiff-Birmingham train connection is straightforward, you can get the train to Birmingham Airport, which can save some time. I have similar problems trying to organise Dublin-Lincolnshire, it’s a nightmare journey.

Something I learned recently is that O’Dea and Lemass were besties who used to take shared family holidays when their kids were small.

I actually hadn’t pursued the oil war/crisis to this particular logical conclusion but it would be catastrophically bad for Americans if this happened. But is it even possible to explain the likely sequence of events to Trump?

The Mulcahy one is extraordinary, especially given he was alive and it looks like a church window memorial!

#OTD 1926, Birr's Rialto Cinema had Waking Up the Town (US: Pickford, 1925), with Jack PIckford. Its Midland Tribune ad adjoined an editorial on the census, which "will be consulted for years to come by those interested in questions of national, social and industrial interest." #EarlyIrishCinema

Ffs, those fines are insultingly small

I’d been wondering about that and yes it’s something but how much is that fine, a couple of hundred euro maybe?

This is how I discover there are apps to detect them tho (I mean of course there are!). Does anyone know which of those apps are reliable and not also just covert surveillance operations?
