I can’t image a character I write that doesn’t reflect my mental health in some way. From neurodivergence to PTSD to depression (even if I do try to avoid that one), I feel like I write best from what I know and what I know is AuDHD & depression. To be authentic is to tap into it.

I think representation is a huge part of it. I thrived on books about characters managing depression as a kid as a way to see and feel understood about what I was going through.
I also think it helps bring warranted attention to an important topic and promotes empathy.
