The government’s proposal in the health and disability green paper that people should have to be awarded 4 points for one of the daily living activities in order to receive PIP is absolutely mad. Thousands of disabled people will be thrown off PIP and pushed even further into poverty.
This is a seminal moment: a Labour government cutting disability benefits. Not just continuing Tory levels. Cutting.
This comes after a week of speculation, itself an act of cruelty by a government toying with people’s dignity.
These cuts are disgraceful - and they will cost lives.
The truth of the disability benefit reforms is that Labour know they will push people to suicide with these cuts, and a dead disabled person is a financial win in their eyes.
a reminder that disabled people who chose to live with their partners, as all people should have the right to do, no longer qualify for any out of work benefits. their only crumb of financial independence is PIP. women trapped in abusive relationships under these circumstances have little to no hope
Love to everyone terrified by today’s benefits announcements—claimants, carers, allies.
There’s no making this OK. But know this: it won’t end up as Labour postures. The disabled community will carry on fighting back—lobbying, resisting and mutual aid.
