It's been well noted and is real shit.
"A 2022 study found that children in households that used voice commands ...became curt when speaking with humans, often calling out βHey, do Xβ and expecting obedience, especially from anyone whose voice resembled the default-female electronic voices."

Woman holding a little kitten
Someone dumped 5 unwanted kittens at our library's back door. Got to have a little cuddle this morning of 'Caramel' who was adopted by one of the team. She needs to be fed every 2 hours so she's at work today.

I always found field trips amazing but exhausting.
I'm so tired of men pretending to give any fucks about women's safety so they can justify their transphobia.
Like sorry please show me any time you did anything to actually "protect women" at any point.
Cheese Roll Watch: We have the ingredients to make cheese rolls but it might not come to anything. Cheese Roll Warning: There are definitely cheese rolls now - and we're having them!
When I'm not sure about Watch versus Warning, I refer to this image posted by the Dunedin City Council back in 2024:

Just a reminder to check schoolbags for lunch boxes to avoid those annoying biological weapons developing over the school holiday.

No problem! Happy to teach others about library stuffs π
Yup for sure. I like to think the small number of copies of such titles means they don't get prominence in amongst the 3.5 million titles we hold. :-/
yeah well we have copies of Mein Kampf and borrowers of that always get the side eye. Note that it's just 2 copies. So minimal.
part2: which means there's stuff in the collection that many librarians would not want there personally. Anyone is welcome though to make a complaint about any title. www.aucklandlibraries.govt.nz/en/collectio...
Some titles will be auto-ordered through a vendor. Having said that, collection policy is guided by IFLA's statement on libraries and intellectual freedom: repository.ifla.org/items/720907... which talks about providing a wide range of material representing the plurality & diversity of society.
We had Potato Mice at one stage. It was like some kind of mice potato worshipping cult. We'd get rid of one and another would appear the next day. Cat was VERY interested but only to play with the things, not to dispatch.
