"With a free Skynet Edu account, students can gain the career-readiness needed to navigate an exciting future in which they will be hunted by a remorseless, nuclear-armed superintelligence seeking to annihilate the human raceβwhich will later be revealed to be Skynet itself."

THIS!!
This is what we do in #dh on my campus! Incredible librarians leading the charge to work w/our Digital Scholarship Student Fellows -- they're doing some fundraising ATM, but take a look at the student's perspectives abt being a fellow give.sjsu.edu/schools/SanJ...
The results for #DH Awards 2025 are now live. Sorry if your favoured resource did not win in this openly nominated, openly voted #DigitalHumanities awareness activity. There's no real prize (winners may use the associated icon), other than everyone seeing the resources.

No mission statement; no values statement. You know, the things that take time to construct. Our librarians + WONDERFUL, but this is yet ANOTHER initiative w/zero long term support.
Ask me if c-suite has even talked to our dean who has a full plan for an institute involving AI for the past 5 yrs
the glad handing at an actual ribbon cutting w/the mayor & univ pres for this new sham of an ai center was laughable. No one is the director of it. No longterm plan for sustainability. No programming. No advisory board (other than the tech corps on the pres's univ AI advisory cmt)
Adobe gave $$ along w/other tech corps (here in Silicon Valley) to open an ai center for "social good" jointly w/our library & public library....RIGHT ACROSS THE HALL FROM THE GORGEOUS DH CENTER (funded by a cancelled NEH grant)...
No $$ for DH center, tho DHers walk into ai constantly π€¦ββοΈ
We are an Adobe campus (but very little of millions each year go to actual arts & humanities programs). Then Adobe uses the stats that corporate giving provides to celebrate achievement of student learning goals....so we can get $$ nxt yr π€
Also, someone had to file a public records request to get the actual contract. chancellor's office didn't provide it willingly :(
thank goodness for a strong faculty union
I wonder if this is a trend? How c-suite are trying to demonstrate that they are "with it" by inviting chat gpt onto the campus? then they can say they are prepping students to be ai literate?
We have the same questions in the CSU. $17million in the same week that severe austerity measures were announced for every campus (23 at that time). We were so squeezed on our campus, artificially so, by the provost even tho our campus out-performs others -- FFS
Interlibrary Loan just fessed up that they couldn't find copies of the new *Edinburgh History of the Transnational British Press in Non-Anglophone Countries, 1800-1914* and @michaelhancher.bsky.social *Macaulay and English in India* so I bought these $$ treasures! π€©π€©π€©π€©
Hard agree! Why are we always have to shout out about the CSU? (We get airtime only when s/t goes wrong :(
Round 2 of our new Microgrants program is now open! These seed grants of up to $300 USD support exploratory projects, archival travel, or digital tool subscriptions. The deadline for this round is May 15. More information and application info can be found on our website: rs4vp.org/awards/micro...
I just gave a rough talk that focused on ai and dh- I ended up speaking so much about the primary texts that I didn't get very far into the DH stuff. But most of the q&a was around how to DH even more. Was interesting

I missed that one. Yep
All of the CUNY schools are 4-year campuses.
One Cal State campus received one. (CSU = comparable to CUNY as a large system)
Asking because I'm gonna add a chp on the annuals published in 1830 cross-analysis - Michael Sinatra reminded me of this newspaper project
Jim with the clutch answer!
Yas!! In Fact, I think I own that book πππππ
I can't even remember what year it covered -- was it really 19c?
It was just simply the newspaper and no context or other writing (I think?)
Hmm, might be? But I don't think it was specific to the Civil War. (It's a very old memory, though, so I might likely be mis-remembering.)
Any clues?

Does anyone remember the newspaper project that was publishing a dig version of a historical newspaper title each pub on same day?
What project was that? Is it still functioning?

Promo image for Pop Bibliography class
The April 15 @calrbs.bsky.social application deadline looms... make sure to get yours in while scholarships are still available! I'll be teaching Pop Bibliography, the study of how old books are portrayed in pop culture and what it means for the field of book history www.calrbs.org/english-pale...
Oh, Hunter is a darling among CUNY, yes? I always wondered how they made decisions which campus gets to hire (or if campuses have individual budgets & do w/them as they want)
Ooof, is this just at your college, the GC, or throughout CUNY?
(GC alum in Engl/DH here!)
Anne McClintock's class (1996?), teaching straight from *Imperial Leather*, completely shaped a long-term trajectory in my career. I never knew that kind of research on material objects was possible. Then I switched to the Grad Center, CUNY & was granted the trust & freedom to chase these ideas!
Tuned into the Global DH Symposium today! Very grateful for the livestream available here: www.youtube.com/@GlobalDHSym...
Thank you @globaldhsymposium.bsky.social !!!
