Have you heard about the Janowska camp before? It was an incredibly important place and one which exemplifies almost all elements of the Holocaust in one way or another.
Check out the latest episode starring...your host and Holocaust scholar Doris Bergen.

How did Nazi perpetrators confront (or avoid) their guilt, even when they were convicted? How did their families and children react? What happened to a whole generation of former Nazis in the postwar period?

This was one was really great with @andreapitzer.bsky.social talking about the long history of concentration camps.
Check it out!
Another top pod from @waitmanwbeorn.com and @holocaustpod.bsky.social. FWIW let me heartily endorse KL, top book. And I have a recommendation. An account of the internment camp on the Isle of Man. #histbookchat
What IS a concentration camp? Where did the concept come from? How does the history of concentration camps inform our understanding of them (past and present)?
These are just some of the questions we covered in this episode with @andreapitzer.bsky.social.

Really cool!
Citation of the podcast in a scholarly journal article!
That's a great suggestion.
In this episode, we go back to Babi Yar, the largest open-air shooting of the Holocaust which took place in Kyiv in September 1941.
I talked with Victoria Khiterer about the massacre, bystanders, and the incredible struggle to commemorate this event.

It's a good question. As I said in the podcast, I think the "ordinary" element Browning was keying on was the idea that they weren't young, Nazi-indoctrinated people and came from a very left-wing city.
Oh, yeah. That whole scene was...as the kids say...cringe.
In this episode, I talked with Carolyn Dean about witnessing the Holocaust and empathy. We had a wide-ranging conversaion about the appropriate use of images and also about bystanding and the challenge of indifference.
A LOT to think about!
