Excited to share our paper about copick, a dataset API and toolkit for collaborative annotation and analysis of #cryoET data! Whether you're picking particles or curating segmentations, copick reduces friction and brings #OME-Zarr to cryoET without breaking pipelines.

Figure 4 from the preprint

We @embl.org wrote a short preprint about optimizing for maximum completeness in #cryoet analysis. We looked at template matching, VPP imaging, and tilt-series refinement parameters, and why averaging ribosomes helps even if you aren’t interested in their biology 🏭

High-resolution cryo-EM structures of small protein–ligand complexes near the theoretical size limit - Nature Communications The estimated minimum particle size for cryo-EM structural analysis is 38 kDa. Here, authors show that high-resolution structures of protein-ligand complexes as small as 32- 41 kDa can be determined u...

The small protein cryo-EM paper I helped start has been accepted in Nature Communications - what a relief. Thanks to @landerlab.bsky.social and @olibclarke.bsky.social for their constructive review. Congratulations to all co-authors, and wishing everyone good luck.

Chromatic Correction for observing biological dynamics - RFI JEOL’s pioneering chromatic aberration corrected electron microscope has at the Franklin. This is the culmination of a five-year collaboration which was started at the outset of the Franklin and has already delivered two other unique instruments. The development of the latest instrument represents the first of its type globally and the first chromatically corrected instrument in the UK. Commissioning will take place over the next year by a team at the Franklin that includes a JEOL embedded research scientist for 3 years. Initial applications of the instrument will be to use sophisticated liquid cells to study biological dynamics and to study thick samples.

Yay proportional editing is now available in the Coot 1 API (in the daily)!

This alters the sphere of influence of dragged refinement, which helps a lot when making large adjustments - register shifts of helices, domain movements, etc.

I've added in a little widget to set it in coot1-trimmings.
