A measure of the ongoing crisis for the most vulnerable is the "fuel poverty gap"—the amount by which energy bills would have to reduce to lift a household out of fuel poverty. This gap has nearly doubled since 2020, rising from £223 to £407 (an 82% increase).

We support the call for a comprehensive national energy debt strategy. We cannot ask the poorest families to 'innovate' or 'transition' while they are carrying a collective £5.5 billion in arrears.
This validates why the Green Doctor service is essential. If a household is already in the "arrears trap," they cannot afford the efficiency upgrades that would lower their bills. They are stuck in a cycle where they pay the highest rates (due to the debt allowance) for the least efficient homes.
The July Spike: If debt hits £7bn as predicted by the end of this year, another £15 will likely be added to every household's annual bill to keep the supplier market afloat.
Fuel poverty affects us all. The Typical Household: Currently pays an extra £50 per year just to cover the collective cost of other people’s unrecoverable energy debt. Without a rapid transition to renewables this figure is only going to increase with volatile energy prices.
Funding Opportunities:
Schools, registered charities, and non-profits supporting children can apply for up to £1,500. We welcome projects that improve access to nutritious food and boost physical or mental wellbeing
