@coe.int looked at instances of #ElderAbuse after a collective complaint and found the use of cage beds in residential care homes, a clear violation, and these were removed before the Social Rights Committee issued a decision. It shows that protective measures are necessary

Ms Knoefel of @ec.europa.eu : the Commission has not taken a decision yet, vut it announced its intention to withdraw the equal treatment directive to create movement, and well see after six months what to do.

It is frustrating because member states blocked since 19 years, but withdrawing without offering an alternative is not satisfying

Age has no strategy, no roadmap on EU level. There is nothing older persons can rely on. Ageism can be mainstreamed into other strategies, and it has its benefits, but it is not enough. #EqualTreatmentDirective.

The EU does not enough to protect the rights of older persons - not special rights, just the same as anyone else, says @mjkucharczyk.bsky.social of @ageplatformeu.bsky.social. even the #EmploymentDirective is not applied consistently on age. We are already losing the potential of older people.

The Council of Europe's Social Rights Committee examines reports on the rights of older persons, the last time in 2020. It called for better frameworks to fight age discrimination on EU and national level. @coe.int

Susanne Knoefel of @ec.europa.eu: The EU has renewed its commitment to equality and the existing equality strategies and includes age discrimination in consumer protection and others. It works in a Task Force with member states on intersectional discrimination, and conducts a study on age discrim.
