Update: three tubs of roasted red pepper hummus (two into the freezer for later), and a pint container of beans waiting to be crisped up to top lunches

Currently making Sunday beans (2 cups of dried garbanzos in the instant pot) for the week ahead. We could all use more beans.

Finally made the calendar app I've been wanting

sufficient.software/menu-calendar/

Drops down from menu bar, pull events from Calendar.app, join button that forces correct google account for meet links, quickly build a copy/paste block of availability for sending in emails/chats

I even detoured through the macos-side version of the app being written in C so I didn't have to include all the swift build chain stuff. Actually debating refactoring it so the screenshot code is a nif so I can move the logic to elixir

Extremely not hard surprisingly, I'll put a repo up in the next couple of days and I can shoot it your way. Real insight was to use android adb socket instead of their USB comms protocol because the socket isn't limited to 2.0 speed. Theres a noticeable lag in the mouse, but its not bad at all

Got fed up with none of the various “tablet as a monitor” apps not working with my ePaper boox tablet, so I rolled my own. Folks, it is as good as I imagined. Finally unlocking working outside in full sun.

FYI If you use @zed.dev and Elixir Expert lsp: Zed only grabs the newest build if the version changes. Expert only has nightly and version doesn't change.

Yeah, I made my own personal writing app for boox because theirs are so rough. It uses their pen api to write to svg, which I stick into a folder in my obsidian vault so I can view / type up later and have it sync to my other devices.

Same, the writing layer on the other boox devices is pretty good and I miss it pretty hard when I pull out the palma

The Secret Rules of the Terminal, by Julia Evans - The cover illustration depicts three people doing arcane terminal magic in a temple with a smoking censer in the background. Each of the three people has curly brown hair and light brown skin. They are all wearing dresses, billowing cloaks, and utility belts with keyboard symbols on them. The one on the left holds a palette of paints and a brush. The one on the right has a staff with a $ symbol on it and a starfish at the top. The one in the centre has a sword and is reading from a book whose cover says “>_” and “./”, which rests on a lectern with a smiling snake wrapped around it.

we've already sold 1000 copies of The Secret Rules of the Terminal since it came out on Tuesday!!

so to celebrate I'm giving away 1000 copies to anyone who can't afford to buy one. You can use code BUYONEGIVEONE to get a free PDF copy if $12 USD is a lot for you.

"Last chance to earn 200 points" says the company I bought ear plugs from. I definitely don't want to miss out on this opportunity.

A man in winter gear is kneeing down in the snow and petting a sled dog, who is leaning on him. The dog is hooked up to a dog sled behind them, and the dog sled mushers are scattered around the background.

I am raising money for a winter festival in Milwaukee. In 2024, 200+ people came. This years dates are Feb 8 and 15, 2025. Food, fun and bonfires. Donations go toward keeping all the activities free to attendees. Bring a little joy to deep winter.

Gave my first radio interview this week. This is Xcaret Nuñez of @wuwmradio.bsky.social, who is so good at her job that it was actually fun and not terrifying. We talked about www.winterbreakmke.com and what it means for Milwaukee.
