Film budgets usually get built one of two ways:
1) You work backwards from what you can raise, or
2) You work forwards from what the director wants.
In my experience, both approaches miss something fundamental - and I wrote about it on LinkedIn (Link in first comment)

Things I just learned:
In 1793, a ship carrying the first official French metric standards (a copper kilogram and meter) was captured by pirates in the Caribbean, keeping them from reaching Thomas Jefferson. And, b/c of this, the US defaulted to British imperial units.
Nobody's talking about CAC, MVP, or north star metrics in indie film. They should be.
Most indie films don't fail creatively. They fail operationally. I produce films the way I ran product launches - with real strategy behind them.
