Basically lots of trial and error. And so much RAM usage. SO MUCH RAM USAGE. If someone would like, I'd be happy to share the exact values I used.

That's it for now, he's all done! Rigged, weight painted, fur-'ed. The whole shebang. Can't wait to finally make some cool scenes with him!

I probably redid Ratchet's (and later Rivet's (coming soon!)) fur dozens of times combined. Each time though, it got better and better.

Material work with the fur was a struggle too. I eventually settled on a heavily color graded toon shader, completely yeeting the Principled Hair BSDF.

Back in January (woah) THIS is what I started with. My first attempt. I had NEVER done a hair/fur system in Blender before. It was totally new territory. And frustratingly, there were so few resources on how to make it.

Blender kept changing, so even recent tutorials were totally outdated.

Newly finished character drop... THIS TIME RATCHET!

Like Clank and Kit, base mesh and textures were yoinked from Rift Apart. Material work and fur was custom made though.

Man, what a learning experience doing fur was. Gonna make a thread here to talk about it.

It's at my old high school too, that couldn't have worked out better too. Nice short commute, I know a lot of the teachers. The whole shebang. I'll also be teaching woodshop, engineering, and an intro to tech freshman class.

Nice salary too, makes saving for a house a real possibility.

Ran outta characters. This is a rip from Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart, assembled in Blender! Texutres and model are from the game, assembling, weight painting, rigging, and node-ing the textures is harder than it seems, especially to get the look right.

Back when I was ripping Clank, I also snagged Kit. Her character is actually the reason I got into the Ratchet and Clank series, by a random recommended YouTube video of her cutscenes from the game. So she does hold a special place haha. The model was quite fun making!
