Huge thanks to everyone who helped us Bag the Bruck with Greener Orkney on Sunday afternoon, picking up harmful litter from Garson Shore, Stromness. 11 folk helped us gather 13 black bags full of waste!

Happy #WorldPuffinDay! Puffins are known locally as "tammie norries” and arrive at their breeding colonies in Orkney from late April to August. May and June are the best puffin-spotting months.

Good morning to everyone, but especially to all the puffins, for today is their special day!

To celebrate World Puffin Day, here is an engraving of a puffin from 'Animated Nature Vol. 2' (1821) by Georges-Louis Leclerc, Comte de Buffon.

Happy Easter! 🐣 We're open until 4pm today and 10am-5pm Easter Monday.

🪺 We have many Orkney birds' eggs, collected by Victorian collectors and past members of the Orkney Natural History Society. Collecting was popular into the 20th century, but collecting wild birds' eggs became illegal in 1954.

An Orkney Vole sits nibbling a blade of grass

An Orkney Vole sits nibbling a blade of grass

📢 Some great news from Orkney!

A new report shows Orkney Vole abundance last spring was the highest it's been since efforts to remove invasive non-native stoats began.

This small, elusive vole is found nowhere else and is threatened by the arrival of stoats (in 2010).
